Innovation & Enrepreneurship Support

Wayne State University is continuing its commitment to spurring inventiveness, innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the Detroit Metro Area. With education, technology transfers and funding, Wayne State University helps students with start-ups across all stages.

Engineering students can gain an EDGE Engineering Entrepreneur certification that covers curriculum from the business, law and engineering departments. The EDGE certificate is designed to teach engineering students the aspects of business that foster new ventures, leveraged technical expertise and business acumen.

Technology transfers through the research department's Technology Commercialization program are used by Wayne State University to "...support the faculty and the university in translating innovative ideas from the university to the marketplace." Students have an opportunity to leverage Wayne State University research to help create a product advantage over competitors in the marketplace.

Students can find support for their new venture at two law department clinics. First, there is the Business Community Law Clinic. Finally, the Patent Procurement Clinic helps student apply for and secure patents.
