Bio

Francesca Toso is assistant professor in Stakeholder Engagement and Co-Design in the Human Centered Design (HCD) group of the University of Twente (NL) since November 2022.

Born in Trieste (IT), she studied industrial Design at the Iuav University of Venice (IT), where she obtained her PhD in 2018 with a thesis on the design of a system for sensorimotor rehabilitation after stroke. She built her research profile with study and research experiences at Iuav University of Venice (IT), Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (GE), ITRI - Industrial Technology Research Institute (TW) and Eindhoven University of Technology (NL).

She has been working as local project manager on different European project involving international and multidisciplinary consortia, such as Interreg IT-AT AGEDESIGN, Interreg NWE Certification-D and MSC-DN HOMEDEM.

In parallel of the research activity, she engaged on teaching activities at Iuav University of Venice (IT), San Raffaele Telematic University (IT), Eindhoven University of Technology (NL) and University of Twente (NL).

With a strong attitude for transdisciplinary research, her research interests space between embodied interaction for vulnerable people, personalized care and inclusivity (in terms of gender, culture and [in]visible disabilities). Core elements of her research methodology are co-design and participatory approaches based on the engagement of diverse stakeholders (citizen and professionals as owners of valuable, different expertises), with the aim of reaching a sustainable societal impact.
