Overview

Indiegogo is an online, crowdfunding platform. Campaigns range from humanitarian efforts, to art projects, to new and exciting tech projects. Anyone with a valid bank account can set up a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo. With the combination of a crowdfunding platform and a marketplace for successful campaigns, Indiegogo is the go-to platform for creators that realise their ideas and want to bring them to people. According to Indiegogo, “[its] mission is to empower people to unite around ideas that matter to them and together make those ideas come to life.”

In the years since its founding in 2008, over $1 billion dollars have been raised in more than 11 million separate contributions to almost 300,000 unique campaigns. Indiegogo has been used by more than 15 million people across the world. There have been campaigns launched in 223 countries, with 30% of campaigns starting outside of the United States. Nearly 50% of Indiegogo campaigns are run by women, and approximately 19,000 new campaigns are launched per month.

Starting a campaign is free, but Indiegogo charges a 5% fee on all funds raised (actual contributions not goal). In addition, the credit card processor charges a 3% + $0.30 fee for each transaction. There is also a $25 fee for international wire transfers.

Distinct Differences From Other Offerings

Indiegogo is unique because it is a crowdfunding platform that raises money and creates awareness of your campaign and at the same time offers a marketplace for successful campaigns to keep on flourishing. It allows you to get a start on your campaign and expand your network by people connecting to your stories. Indiegogo has access to millions of people worldwide that will help you build a strong community for you campaign. But Indiegogo also gives you support in strategies, “as well Indiegogo’s exclusive manufacturing, fulfillment and retail partners”. Indiegogo is the platform for you to get your campaign started and keep it going.

Impact Achieved for Students and Campus

Because Indiegogo is worldwide the impact of your campaign will reach many people. Having Indiegogo is beneficial to you because people on here care for change and will contribute to your idea. This platform has many ideas and products that people can support and there will be many who will contribute to your cause.

Steps Required to Bring Resource to Campus

To have your Campaign on Indiegogo, you will first need to have a valid bank account. You should be aware that if you want to start a project there will be a 5% platform fee. If you are fundraising for a cause then there is no platform fee. You will need to create an account with them; once that is completed the rest of the steps are simple to follow.
