Using input from across the country, the NAE identified 14 areas in need of engineering sol</span><span style="background-color: transparent; font-size: 10pt; white-space: pre-wrap; text-indent: 36pt;">utions in the 21st century. Within these 14 areas, the GCSP developed a combined, co-, and extra-curricular program that is intended to prepare the next generation of students to address the challenges within society. The GCSP is an outcomes-based program that is designed to inspire a movement within the participants local ecosystem. The goal is to pilot innovative educational approaches for engineering students and encourage students to engage with a diverse group of their peers from across the globe to solve the challenges that are crucial for the survival of generations to come.</span></span>
<span style="font-size:small"><span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif">The <span data-scaytid="2" data-scayt_word="NAE">NAE</span> Committee on Engineering's Grand Challenges has identified 14 areas awaiting engineering solutions in the <span data-scaytid="5" data-scayt_word="21st">21st</span> century:</span></span>

<span style="font-family:tahoma,geneva,sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 10pt; white-space: pre-wrap;">The NAE also hosts the Vest Scholars program which is aimed at international collaborations and the Global Summit Student Day that brings together students from each of the participating organizations (currently the United States, the United Kingdom, and China) for a design competition.</span></span>
