She was born and raised in Wichita Kansas.<br/><br/>She is currently a Technical Developer at the Ennovar Institute at Wichita State where she works directly with engineers creating collateral for technology companies. In her free time, LaRissa free-lances in photography, design, and writing. LaRissa is a founding member of Shocker Startup and currently serves as Vice President. She is active in the entrepreneurship and communications communities in Wichita, she is also a member of Wichita Women Who Code and Wichita Professional Communicators.<br/><br/>Throughout her college career, she has been interested in how to bring together diverse groups of students. Something that she’s seen through her previous work in journalism. LaRissa learned about University Innovation Fellows when she co-founded Shocker Startup with Wesley Alexis and Hannah Hund. UIF has given her the opportunity to explore how innovation and entrepreneurship can empower her fellow students. LaRissa has a passion for the intersection of storytelling and technology. <span class="s1">LaRissa Lawrie is a senior studying Strategic Communications at Wichita State University. She was born and raised in Wichita Kansas. She currently works as the Director of Marketing at ELP Aviation. A company that creates software for aviation companies. </span>
Her background is in technical communications and working with engineers to create technical white papers. When she is not working at ELP Aviation, LaRissa is a freelance photographer, graphic designer, and copy-editor. Most of her freelance clients are startups and small businesses in the Wichita area. She recently started a design outfit under the title “Modberry” to help students sell their designs and crafts.
<span class="s1">She is a founding member of Shocker Startup and currently serves as Vice President. Shocker Startup has organized multiple large speaking events at Wichita State, is creating an alumni network of mentors to support student entrepreneurs, and is giving away grant money to fund prototypes for interdisciplinary student teams. Shocker Startup is also planning a Tedx event for Wichita State. </span>
As part of her UIF work LaRissa gives pop-up classes/seminars on design-thinking, rapid prototyping, and innovation. This has served as a way to involve non-technical students in the innovation eco-system and get them involved. LaRissa is the current President of Lambda Pi Eta at Wichita State University - a national communications honor society. She is active in the entrepreneurship and communications communities in Wichita, she is also a member of Wichita Women Who Code and Wichita Professional Communicators.
