Global Connections Club at Eagle Innovation Showcase Event 2024

Priority 1: Global Connections Club

Purpose: Studying abroad is a transformative experience that enriches student’s lives academically, personally, and culturally. Some students might experience nervousness or fear when going on a trip with a group of strangers. The Global Connections Club (GCC0 will help ease the anxiety of said students and will facilitate connections and foster relationships between students who have had and are going to experience studying abroad. The club's dedication would extend to collecting funds for those students who may not be able to afford the excursion.

Strategies:

  • Recruit faculty advisors and founding members, then apply to be an official student organization
  • Work with WTCC Communications to publicize club internally and externally
  • Partner with WTCC Foundation Office to obtain funding for scholarship
  • Create scholarship process and recruit faculty, staff, and students to participate
  • Grow student membership through outreach events
  • Coordinate with WTCC Student Activities on fundraising efforts

Priority 2: Enhancing Student IDs

Purpose: Wake Tech students rely on their student ID for essential campus services, yet the current physical card system presents accessibility and usability challenges. Lost cards and limited functionality negatively impact the student experience. Enhancing student IDs by adding their ID numbers to physical cards and introducing a secure, mobile-friendly digital student ID system would streamline access to campus resources, reduce friction in daily student life, and modernize institutional processes.

Strategies:

  • Conduct staff interviews and student surveys to understand pain points within the current ID system
  • Research the logistics and feasibility of implementing digital student IDs
  • Propose incorporating student ID numbers on physical cards and digitalizing student IDs
  • Provide findings student perspectives to WTCC's executive leadership
  • Incorporate mobile ID on new interface

Priority 3: The Innovation Marathon

Purpose: Many students have creative ideas to solve campus challenges but lack the structure, mentorship, and confidence to turn them into reality. The Innovation Marathon is a series of design/critical thinking workshops that are primarily aimed at first year students involving hand-on activities in collaboration with campus resources. These events intend to encourage collaboration and community among our students and inspire them to being their innovation journey at WTCC.

Strategies:

  • Recruit faculty/staff partners and secure support from stakeholders
  • Design three workshops around design-thinking skills
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications to promote workshops across campuses
  • Collaborate with the Makerspace, Student Success Peer Leaders, etc. to highlight resources
  • Invite a local innovator as a keynote speaker for an opening session
  • Partner with Student Activities to scale the event
