Morgan State University is the premier public urban research university in Maryland known for its excellence in teaching, intensive research, effective public service, and community engagement. Morgan prepares diverse and competitive graduates for success in a global, interdependent society.

Strategic Pitch

Strategy #1: Create Designated Spaces to Foster Creativity

"Space is the body language of an organization"

Morgan has stated that it plans to "engage in continuous improvement, renovation, and construction of facilities that will suppport Morgan's faculty, staff, and students in their teaching, learning research, and creative work, that will enhance the delivery of student support services and improve the quality of life for Morgan State University"

Tactic #1: Create an Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship (ICE) Center

This premier urban innovation center will foster creativity, improve entrepreneurial skill sets, and increase interdisciplinary collaborations. It will include a skills lab for learning hard skills. Weekly tech tutorials and workshops can also be given in this space.

Possible Locations: Earl Richardson Library, Dixon Research Center, McKelden Center, Carnegie building; McMechen building

Betaversity-

Tactic #2: Create a Student Lounge in the Physics Department

At Morgan State University, there is no designated space for physics students outside the classrooms. Opening a lounge will strengthen the crippled physics department by creating a sense of community, fostering social support, and increasing learning collaboration.

Location: One of the classroom/office spaces in the department can be turned into a student lounge. Ideally, the lounge will be placed close to the department office, so whenever the office is open/closed during the day the lounge can be as well.

Strategy #2 Exposure more non-STEM students to Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Tactic #1 Intro to Innovation and Entrepreneurship Course

Tactic #2 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Complementary Courses

Strategy #3 Increase Student-Driven Commercialization

Morgan has stated that it will "support innovation in business and the commercialization of intellectual property through growing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, securing an increased number of patents, and establishing a technology transfer center to support the creation of new business and technology transfer enterprises"

Tactic #1 Venture Capital Challenge

Tactic #2 Local Tech Collaboration

Morgan has stated that it wants to "explore public/private collaborative relationships with developers, contractors, and other commercial groups and entities to develop new environmentally sustainable and technologically advanced administrative and student residential facilities, to expand Morgan’s physical presence throughout the State, and to promote the State and the Morgan brand."

Local Partnership will expose students toindustrial and entpreneurial skills through projects designed by members in the local tech community

Potential Partners: Baltimore Node, Volunteers for Medical Engineering, Port Discovery, Maryland TEDCO
