Bio
Alexandra Cueva is a fourth-year bioengineering student at the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) in Lima, Peru. Originally from Trujillo, known as “the city of eternal spring,” she moved to the capital to chase her dream of becoming a bioengineer. An easygoing person, Alexandra quickly makes friends and is known for her meticulous organization, often using a pink-themed Notion template to keep her meetings and events on track. Alexandra's interests span across biomedical imaging and signals, the development of new medical devices and machine learning.
Her journey into bioengineering was driven by a deep fascination with understanding human behavior and a love for neurosciences and behavioral sciences. Initially, she pursued psychology, enjoying her studies but feeling something was missing. She yearned for hands-on experience in solving health problems, working in laboratories, programming functional codes, and building solutions. Discovering UTEC's bioengineering program was a turning point, solidifying her aspirations.
Academically, Alexandra is highly engaged in campus life, participating in various clubs such as Blyfor (medical robotics), EMBS (biomedical engineering), SBE (biomaterials), and K12 (volunteering to teach kids). She is also a member of the leading team of the neuroscience club at her university, NeuroUtec. A natural competitor, Alexandra is currently involved in prestigious competitions like the Cleveland Clinic Summit, Disrupton, and Prototypes for Humanity. Also, she is part of an interdisciplinary team developing a bionic arm prosthesis, showcasing their prototype at events like Open Day and Tu Vocación STEM.
Outside of academics, in her free time, she enjoys playing video games, reading manga, and visiting museums.
Looking ahead, Alexandra aims to specialize in neuroscience and signals, with the goal of researching and contributing to the development of treatments or improvements in the quality of life for individuals with neurodegenerative disorders.
