In 2020, Marissa began her internship within the Health Care Access and the Economic Justice Programs at Nebraska Appleseed. She is eager to be able to work with community leaders and advocate for policy that fits the need of all Nebraskans. As Marissa gets closer to graduation, her goal is to get her masters in Public Administration and continue to work in local government.
== What is my "Why?" ==
"My "why" is to empower others to believe in their own abilities and to set themselves up for success. I was lucky enough to have mentors in my life who pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and apply to as many opportunities that would present themselves to me. The guidance of my mentors showed me that there were no limits to the kinds of goals I could have whether that meant saying I would run for Mayor in Omaha or open my own nonprofit. Each time they would present me with a new opportunity that could lead me to my goals. Knowing that I am a first generation college student I want to be there to support students who aren't sure of what they want to do or whether they are making the right decisions. I believe everyone can do what they set their minds to as long as they have the right people around them to support them."
