Mark is originally from Goochland, Virginia, where he lived until 2015 when he moved to Harrisonburg, VA to attend JMU. In his junior year in the program, Mark was introduced to the University Innovation Fellows program. At JMU, Mark is involved with Sigma Phi Delta, a professional engineering fraternity, as well as Parrotheadz, a club whose interests involve adopting manatees and having fun. Early in life, Mark developed his interest in engineering from his great grandfather, a mechanic and engineer on the B-29 bombers during WWII.
