''Project by Faculty Innovation Fellows Candidate [[Fellow:Antonina Johnston|Antonina Johnston]]''
===Why is this project important to you, your department, & your Fellows?===
This The '''health DESIGN open''' project is important to me and the Human-Centered Design Lab because we have an opportunity to make a larger impact on our community at the Medical College of Wisconsin and in our health design community in Wisconsinthe United States. This would positively affect our faculty, staff, and students by sharing what human-centered design and design thinking is and how it can be applicable in their work. It would Through this project we will encourage innovation in health profession education while also allow for networking opportunities that might not organically occur between health professions developing stronger relationships with colleagues and the design creating a communityof practice.
A second secondary reason this is important to me is to help solidify the identity of our lab and place in the design communityHuman-Centered Design Lab at the Medical College of Wisconsin. At times it feels like a silo This is an opportunity to focus on radical collaboration within the health professions education by co-designing programs and ideas with learners, staff, and I want to meet faculty. We will broaden our reach and collaborate impact through this work by including new connections with more people to help create real health designers, educators, and big change entrepreneurs in our communityarea.
===Description===
In collaboration with other local institutionsthe Lubar Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, I would like to will co-develop design a health design symposiumDESIGN open that will be linked to their annual Innovator's Expo. There Currently, there is a small number of health design labs in the United States, and an even smaller number that focus on medical health professions education and social innovation. Over the last ten months year our lab has been dedicated to creating a new mission and vision for the future of our lab. Our mission is to advance the innovation of medical education by empowering change makers through empathy, experimentation, and curiosity. Our programs are designed to challenge the status quo and encourage participants to be open to new perspectives. Using this mission, we can offer our community of health designers an opportunity to learn and connect with one another. Milwaukee has a strong higher education presence that we can tap into and that would have interest in working on co-developing designing a project like thisand creating a strong community of practice.
The long-term goals of this project will be to host an annual or bi-annual gathering open to learn fromtogether, share new ideas, and network withconnect. This gathering would open will include programming that includes HCD human-centered design learning and training, community design planning, and presenters on health design topics. This could lead to a network of The pilot health design thinkers that could connect and collaborate more regularlyDESIGN open is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th through Friday, May 10, 2024 in collaboration with the UWM Innovator's Expo.
Short term goals for this project would be to gather In December 2023 a team was created from the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center and the Kern Institute at the Medical College of interested collaborators Wisconsin to start the planning and start ideating on what design of the needs are open. Marketing of the stakeholders and starting to plan a pilot symposium for Spring will begin in late January 2024.
