Michelle Ma is a University Innovation Fellow and a sophomore at Swarthmore College. At Swarthmore, she studies Computer Science and Philosophy, and is deeply interested by the intersection of the two disciplines -- namely Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Ethics of Technology. On campus, she serves as an Associate at the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility, Swarthmore’s premier social entrepreneurship hub, a Teaching Assistant for the Computer Science Department, and an Executive Board Member of the Women in Computer Science club on campus -- in addition to being on the point team for developing the Social Innovation Lab, Swarthmore’s first-ever makerspace.
As someone who is also motivated by the intersection of tech and social good, Michelle is excited to embark on the University Innovation Fellow journey in order to have an even deeper and more holistic conception of Design Thinking. She adamantly believes that a “why”-centric approach to solving problems is the only way to go about crafting a solution -- one that strives to put people first.
