Norwich University was founded in 1819 and is the oldest military university in America. The university also offers a civilian lifestyle and the population of civilian students is growing. The university offers thirty diverse bachelor degrees, from criminal justice to engineering. Most military lifestyle students leave Norwich with a degree and a military contract, which often becomes their career. Built on strong military traditions the university has great leadership development opportunities. However, the university has a rather small ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship. The growing civilian lifestyle is showing great promise in perusing more innovation and entrepreneurship education opportunities. The university is behind the ball on a lot of great things available to students and we hope to see that change in the near future.

Preceive E&I

From this standpoint Norwich is relatively strong. Most majors stress the importantce of E&I and there are great events to inspire E&I. Lecture series are both major specific and open to all. There is also great leadership oportunites and courses. A growing E&I club is hoping to increase the E&I environment around campus. However communication strategies are lacking. There are a few career fairs and a school paper but nothing strongly promoting E&I.

Potential E&I

The business school offers many business management and leadership courses that convey E&I risks and benifits. There are also many adjunct professors who own their own companies. Clubs on campus that hold events relating to E&I are relatively limited. The growing Entrepreneurship and Innovations Club is hoping to hold more events and levy the school for funding to create some sort of open lab. One competion has been held solely for E&I and that was a speach competions on why E&I is important to America.

Applied E&I

There is little applied E&I around campus. There is normal course work and lab work but nothing devoted to E&I. Our only machine lab is often open for free use but you have to coordinate that with the proctor. No set internships or co-op oportunities are available, but our Career Developement Center is very helpful in finding new internships and is always willing to help out when they can.

Realized E&I

The only resource we have for comitting to an idea is a grant system. Research grants for the summer are easily obtainable if you write a great proposal and find a faculty member who is interested in the topic. Professors and the Student Activities Board often offer help when writing grants.

Reframing E&I

From a reframing standpoint many students have no idea that we are located in a top ten state for entrepreneurship. There are many resources outside of the university like Start-Up Vermont or VCET. Most professors are interested in there students work and often lend out information on networking and opportunities for the students idea to grow.
