Brad Turner is a third year software engineering student at Michigan Technological University. He is originally from a smaller town in lower Michigan, growing up just outside of Bay City. He has always been involved in the community and giving back as far as he can remember.
As a University Innovation Fellow, he discovered a way to combine his love of creativity and design with giving back to the community. At Tech, he is involved in the realm of student affairs doing graphic design work to promote student events as well as mentoring other students on the programming board. He also spends time working with the Pavlis Honors College, serving on the student advisory board and working on projects through the Scholars and Leaders program.
His experience as a camp counselor and Orientation Team Leader have expanded his passion for working with students and creating meaningful activities and events.
At Michigan Tech, he has worked on creating a student organization focusing on creativity, design thinking, and innovation, and planned and facilitated events on campus. These events include, but are not limited to, #uifresh activities during orientation, a makerspace design thinking session, and many smaller in-class workshops. To share his lover for creativity and design thinking, he is working with the Michigan Tech Center for Science and Environmental Outreach to build and run an after-school class for middle schoolers focused on discovering creative confidence and inspiring creativity and making.
When not giving back to Tech, or working on homework, Brad spends time with friends watching The Walking Dead, discussing Harry Potter, or plotting how to take over the University with creativity and design thinking. He also enjoys spending time outdoors with his camera, hiking, skiing, or just getting lost in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
