Bio

David Ching is a Mechatronics Engineering student at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima. He chose this program because it integrates multiple disciplines and allows him to transform ideas into real prototypes. Midway through his studies, he showed interest in projects that combined creativity and technology, such as a heart rate monitor and a hybrid aerial/ground robot capable of moving on land and in the air.

He is characterized by his curiosity, empathy, and resilience, qualities that guide both his projects and his way of relating to people. Outside academics he enjoys soccer and music, activities that allow him to balance his personal interests with the challenges of his degree.

In 2024, he won a DAAD scholarship in Germany, where he learned about advanced laboratories and experienced a research culture with greater investment than in his country. This experience broadened his global vision and made him reflect on engineering as a bridge to reducing inequalities.

This same commitment led him to join interdisciplinary teams. At REGULUS, the group that represented Peru in the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2025, he worked in the areas of transmission and powertrain. The competition brought together more than 75 teams from around the world and allowed him to understand that leadership doesn't mean knowing more, but rather knowing how to listen, motivate, and identify strategic management problems. At NAZKART, which competes in BAJA SAE Brazil, he contributed to defining roles, organizing departments, and internal communication, convinced that a strong team is the foundation of any technical achievement.

Personal development plays a central role in his life. He seeks to improve his habits, reflect on his decisions, and maintain clarity about his long-term goals. Beyond individual achievements, he aspires to remain true to his values, inspire others to trust in their ideas, and contribute to a community committed to innovation and technology.

Achievements

  • Member of NAZKART, the university team that competes in BAJA SAE Brazil 2026, contributing to role definition, team organization and communication improvements.
  • Member of REGULUS, the Peruvian team that competed at the NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2025, an event with more than 75 international teams. Contributed in the powertrain area and developed leadership and strategic project management skills.
  • Awarded a DAAD scholarship in 2024 for an academic stay in Germany, gaining international exposure in advanced research laboratories.
  • Co-founder of Calmora, a startup focused on the emotional well-being of young professionals, which earned third place in a national startup competition, connecting engineering with innovation and entrepreneurship (2024).
