</xml><![endif]--></p><p style="text-align: justify">Driven to plant seeds of change and growth, Kayla Barbour is a candidate for Community Planner and founder/principal of ECOPACITY Planning with a focus on connecting people and places with resources. Receiving her Masters in Community Planning from the University Innovation Fellows program of Cincinnati DAAP, Kayla is an experienced facilitator and engagement specialist. As an undergraduate student at Berea College. Working towards active design thinking practitioner, Kayla’s UIF training has enabled her B.S. in Technology and Applied Design to enrich multiple real-world projects with a minor human centered elements that are often overlooked in Sustainability Studiesthe areas she researches such as stormwater runoff, walkability, Kayla’s research is concentrated on Renewable Energy & Coand utility-operative Utility Ownershiporiented GIS analyses.  With aspirations of becoming a biophilic designerfamilial background in real estate, Kayla is deeply passionate hopes to work as an independent planning consultant while operating a non-profit focused on educating children about nature sustainability and gardening. In her free time, Kayla loves to hike and camp with her husband and incorporating holistic methodology into the design of sustainable systemstheir two German shepherds. Originally from IrontonAn avid nature lover, Ohio- she grew up Kayla finds serenity in Appalachia on the banks of the heavily polluted Ohio River, woods and was awakened enjoys fossicking for minerals to add to the devastating effects of fossil fuel extraction at her collection. A random fact about Kayla is that she built a very young age. Since moving to Lexington, KY tiny home and lived in 1999 she has been actively involved it for 3 years while in promoting environmental justiceundergrad at Berea College, action, and awareness where she launched as a University Innovation Fellow in the local communitySpring 2018.</p><p style="text-align: justify"> At Berea College, Kayla Barbour is employed at received a Bachelor’s of Science in Technology and Applied Design while working in the BC Office of Sustainability as the Waste Diversion Program Coordinatorcoordinator. In addition Kayla was introduced to managing student participation the UIF program while participating in the recycling Entrepreneurship for the Public Good (EPG) program under the tutelage of Dr. Peter Hackbert. Recognizing an opportunity to fuse the UIF methodologies within her studies and compost programslabor position, she also plans campusformed and managed a 15+ person team focused on improving front & back end experiences in the college dining hall.  With a goal of reducing food waste by 15%, Kayla and her team digitized the recording and management process of the college’s closed-wide events loop composting system in a project that ultimately scaled every level of hierarchy at the college. Kayla recruited an interdisciplinary team of students, staff, and engages students faculty dedicated to influencing student waste behaviors through public speaking machine learning and educational outreachvisual nudging. As President Using the Innovator's Toolkit to teach Design Thinking to students and Founder staff, Kayla led a series of UIF- and EPG-sponsored workshops to engage the Berea College Students campus with the new WOMbat system (Waste Operations Management, behavior altering technology) while gathering insights about consumer preferences in the dining hall. The results of Sustainability clubthis project enabled students to have more decision making power over meal offerings, she strives in addition to strengthen reducing the collegiate focus on sustainable behavior through interactive programming time and fun activitieshassle of properly recording food waste. Barbour firmly believes that  The experience of being a campus-wide leader in green behavior as an innovative entrepreneurial spirit is necessary to make a positive impact on the environmenteducator, sustainability planner, and she hopes event coordinator empowered Kayla to utilize the design thinking process to contribute meaningful solutions reach out to the global climate UIF team and encourage a change crisisin meal planning at the annual meetups.</p><p style="text-align: justify">When not busy with school or sustainability endeavorsThe Spring 2019 SVM was the first ever Zero Waste UIF meetup, and Kayla enjoys studying Feng Shui and singing as a mezzosopranocrew of other Fabs worked tirelessly to educate the 400+ SVM attendees about composting and recycling during their daily meals and activities.
