== Overview: ==

Founded in 1920 on the campus of Yale University in cooperation with Northeastern University, UNH moved to its current West Haven campus in 1960 and opened its Orange Campus in January, 2014. The University operates a satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy, and offers programs at several locations throughout Connecticut and one in ~~New Mexico~~California. UNH provides its students with a unique combination of a solid liberal arts education and real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities.

The University enrolls approximately 67,~~500~~ 000 students, including nearly 1,600 graduate students and more than 45,~~800~~ 400 undergraduates – the majority of whom reside in University housing. Through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, Tagliatela College of ~~Lifelong & eLearning~~Engineering, andLyme Academy College of Fine Arts ~~and Tagliatela College of Engineering~~, UNH offers over 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UNH students have ~~access~~ access to more than 400 study abroad programs worldwide and its student-athletes compete in 16 varsity sports in the NCAA Division II’s highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.

== ~~Student Innovation~~ In 2016-17, the University of New Haven awarded 1,186 undergraduate and ~~Entrepreneurship~~919 graduate degrees. It currently has over 57,000 alumni, hosts 21,000 visitors a year, and employs 845 people. ==

== Currently, University of New Haven is does not have a major in entrepreneurship, but the business school is developing a minor. The Tagliatela College of Engineering is trying to introduce more innovative entrepreneurial thinking into its courses. Many of the faculty are part of an organization called KEEN. This organization’s mission is to help graduate engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work. KEEN also offers grant to help faculty and clubs promote entrepreneurial thinking. UNH’s Summer Undergraduate Research ~~Fellows~~ Fellowship program is designed to engage students in the experience of applied research under the direct ~~tutelage and~~ mentorship of a faculty member. ~~ The full process involves~~ Over the course of a summer, students ~~crafting a~~ whose research ~~proposal, conducting~~ proposals are accepted conduct a research project~~, and preparation~~ and ~~presentation of~~ present their results in written and oral-presentation form ~~at a research fair~~.  The program supports student engagement, experiential learning, persistence and mentoring. Many students go on to present their findings at professional conferences and pursue more research.

=== Senior Design ===

~~The mechanical engineering~~ Senior Design is a capstone design course ~~is intended to be a unique experience~~ for senior students in mechanical, industrial and systems, civil, computer, and electrical engineering ~~students~~. Students are required to complete a two- semester ~~capstone design~~ course sequence involving application of their theoretical knowledge to solve pressing real-world problems. Each project includes the development and use of design methodology, formulation of design problem statements and specifications, consideration of alternative solutions, feasibility considerations and detailed system descriptions. Projects include realistic constraints, such as economic factors, safety, reliability, maintenance, aesthetics, ethics, political and social impact. Students are expected to present orally their results in a series of design reviews. The students document their solutions using a written report that includes an executive summary. A working prototype or simulation of their solution, as appropriate, is required to complete the course.

Design projects enable our students to put into practice what they have learned and prepare them for the workforce. Business and industry sponsor these projects. Students team up as a business consulting unit to solve the client’s technical/business challenge over a 28-week period.

~~The variety and number of co-op employers attest to their recognition that cooperative~~ Cooperative education is an effective way to identify and train future employees~~. Active~~ , as demonstrated by the vast number of co-op employers ~~include~~ , including American Cyanamid, Black & Decker, Corometrics, Dow UT, Dictaphone, Pitney Bowes, Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, and Remington Products, as well as state and federal agencies. Student assignments include computer programming, accounting, counseling, criminal investigation, and engineering.
