After spending the majority of his college career immersed at California State University, Fullerton's undergraduate business school, Phillip sought to diversify his perspective by becoming an University Innovation Fellow. The program has enabled him to learn how people outside of the traditionally structured industries, such as finance and accounting, solve problems. In addition, UIF requires that Phillip collaborates with a team of three other candidates to spearhead a project that would positively impact the Entrepreneurship and Innovation community on the campus he loves dearly.

After enduring six weeks of training sponsored by Google and the Hasso Plattner, Stanford Institute of Design, Phillip and his team have agreed tackle the lack of student engagement given CSUF's reputation as a commuter school. The team has utilized the principles of design thinking in order to not only brainstorm answers to this campuswide struggle, but also generate prototypes for testing potential solutions. Overall, after interviewing countless student leaders, faculty, and peers, Phillip and the Class of 2018 UIF cohort have commited themselves to increasing the student engagement on campus by connecting student leaders with the best available technology. More information on their project can be found here.
