Sofia Lacayo es estudiante de medicina de sexto año de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Nicaragua (UNAN-MANAGUA). Ella trabaja en la escuela de medicina como promotora de la innovación entre los estudiantes y como ponente en temas de emprendimiento. También es intérprete de la facultad en asuntos universitarios internacionales.

Ha participado durante 4 años en el taller de innovación y emprendimiento de la Grand Valley State University y en la recreación de este taller en diferentes facultades de su universidad.
