How to hold a hack a thon:

First what is a hackathon you might ask! A hackathon is a competition in which you must build the most innovative technology within a straight 24 or 36 or 48 hour time frame.

Now there is major league hacking, which is a very nerdy and cool name for students who are extreme hacker and travel to every hackathon in the country. A major league hackathon consists of over 1000 students. These are the Mhacks and PennApps and the newest and biggest west coast hackathon holding 1500 student is LAhacks!

Everyone who was anyone was at this LAhacks thing. So since I was one of the people helping and supporting this event I'll give you a little run down on how to hold the best and BIGGEST hackathon at your school.

So, first off you need PASSIONATE people (People in your school wanting to help you hold this insane, insomniac event)
then second, you need a cool snazzy name in which everyone can say oh ya see you at LAhacks, Mhacks or PennApps.
Third, you need backers and sponsors (These are people who give you money and prizes and the ability to feed these crazed kids at 3:35am)
Forth, get food sponsors maybe (hackers LOVE food and coffee and energy...I mean they are awake and working on what they are passionate about for 36 hours....feed them!!!)
Fifth, get a building with bathrooms, tables, open space, (and maybe a place with showers...)
Sixth, fix a date! (Weekends are the best)
Seventh, INVITE EVERYONE IN THE WORLD to your event.
