We noticed how on campus it's not common for students of different degrees to work together and create projects benefitting from the different backgrounds that the various academic paths give them. Furthermore, an increasing problem within our University is its sustainability, as students are trying to find more and more ways to become more green and help the planet doing as much as they can. We decided then to unify these two things into a single project, that would see the setting up of a workshop, called "The Green Movement", in order to apply design thinking skills to create a possible sustainable solution to an existing problem of the University. Within this workshop, students would be required to work with people from degrees different from their own, with the aim of building a bigger community among them. This workshop would be a one day long workshop, with the possibility of having a winning project that would then be proposed and applied to the University. It acts twofold as it would provide a solution to the University for its non-sustainable assets, but it would also provide students with design thinking and problem solving skills, together with community engagement among them. 

Steps required:

1. Talk to the department of academics, Student Life or Direction in order to set up a new workshop and understand the logistics needed - Sole can handle this

2. Talk to stakeholders and university staff in order to select areas of improvement that can be challenged and to agree if winning project can be applied - Sole can handle this

3. Carry out a campaing to involve students in the workshop - Everybody can handle this

4. Define the plan of the workshop and deadlines to follow, and set up a date and place where to carry out the workshop - Sole can handle this

We have discovered that within IE there are a lot of tools in order to learn about Well Being in general as well as them providing a counselling service that any students can reach out to. However, there is not much about the possibility to apply some self help tools for them to independently be able to gain a better quality of life. Sometimes there are external talks organised by the university about happiness and well being in general, but these are very rare and are not something that the students can rely on to desire gaining the knowledge whenever they want to. Furthermore, the importance of self help routines as well as the development of the soft skill emotional intelligence is becoming more and more important within our society. EI is predicted to become one of the top 5 soft skills needed in the entrepreneurial world by 2025. Therefore, giving the students the opportunity to develop their emotional intelligence would be an unique chance for them to enhance their possibility of a successful life career wise as well as their general quality of life and level of happiness. In order to transform this idea into reality, we would create a seminar provided by IE in which a good balance between theoretical awareness of Emotional Intelligence and its impact in life as well as the workplace, workshops to apply self help tools for every day life and talks given by professionals in this area such as psychologists or life coaches, would be provided.

Inspired by a visit to the Google campus in Madrid, we want to create IEU’s first Community Board. A simple cork board with the purpose of sparking collaboration through pinned self promotion ads. We want to develop a space in which people are free to showcase their strengths, interests and what they lack to create something amazing. This board would allow students to connect with other that have similar interests, or ones that have a complementing skill. It would also be a space for students to promote their startups and other initiatives on campus in one centralized location. This is a simple initiative that will start to create offline and meaningful connections between campuses.

Each year, big inter-campus events(i.e. Spring Ball) promote the connection between students but at the end of the day, students do not really mix with each with other campuses’ students in these.

From clubs, through all sorts of extracurricular activities, and start-ups, there is a huge potential wasted simply because of not wanting to “fuck up”. In the best spirit of design thinking, failing and trying again provides experiential learning and becomes a valuable asset for eventual success. <span style="font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: Arial; background-color: transparent; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">We believe in many cases this fear comes from the fact of the understandable but biased media and academic visibility of successes over failures. We noticed how on campus it's not common for students of different degrees to work together and create projects benefitting from the different backgrounds that the various academic paths give them. Furthermore, an increasing problem within our University is its sustainability, as students are trying to find more and more ways to become more green and help the planet doing as much as they can. We decided then to unify these two things into a single project, that would see the setting up of a workshop, called "The Green Movement", in order to apply design thinking skills to create a possible sustainable solution to an existing problem of the University. Within this workshop, students would be required to work with people from degrees different from their own, with the aim of building a bigger community among them. This workshop would be a one day long workshop, with the possibility of having a winning project that would then be proposed and applied to the University. It acts twofold as it would provide a solution to the University for its non-sustainable assets, but it would also provide students with design thinking and problem solving skills, together with community engagement among them. 

Steps required:

1. Talk to the department of academics, Student Life or Direction in order to set up a new workshop and understand the logistics needed - Sole can handle this

We have discovered that within IE there are a lot of tools in order to learn about Well Being in general as well as them providing a counselling service that any students can reach out to. However, there is not much about the possibility to apply some self help tools for them to independently be able to gain a better quality of life. Sometimes there are external talks organised by the university about happiness and well being in general, but these are very rare and are not something that the students can rely on to desire gaining the knowledge whenever they want to. Furthermore, the importance of self help routines as well as the development of the soft skill emotional intelligence is becoming more and more important within our society. EI is predicted to become one of the top 5 soft skills needed in the entrepreneurial world by 2025. Therefore, giving the students the opportunity to develop their emotional intelligence would be an unique chance for them to enhance their possibility of a successful life career wise as well as their general quality of life and level of happiness. In order to transform this idea into reality, we would create a seminar provided by IE in which a good balance between theoretical awareness of Emotional Intelligence and its impact in life as well as the workplace, workshops to apply self help tools for every day life and talks given by professionals in this area such as psychologists or life coaches, would be provided.

Inspired by a visit to the Google campus in Madrid, we want to create IEU’s first Community Board. A simple cork board with the purpose of sparking collaboration through pinned self promotion ads. We want to develop a space in which people are free to showcase their strengths, interests and what they lack to create something amazing. This board would allow students to connect with other that have similar interests, or ones that have a complementing skill. It would also be a space for students to promote their startups and other initiatives on campus in one centralized location. This is a simple initiative that will start to create offline and meaningful connections between campuses.

She decided at this age that it was time to leave her family and undertook a journey alone to the UK in order to finish her high school degree where she was able to do the International Baccalaureate. While being in the UK, she was able to learn through her experience to take into consideration one's paradigm of life being moulded by one's culture and external forces to broaden her mind and learn that from one situation, multiple different perspectives can be taken. She also found a deep passion for philosophy that supported well what she was observing from interacting with so many different cultures. Sophiia then decided that her next journey would be studying Psychology in Spain and this is how she ended up in IE University being now part as well of the UIF community! Entrepreneurship and Innovation are two of the four IE pillars, alongside Humanities and Diversity. Students are exposed to entrepreneurship and innovation through their academic programs as well as University-wide programs facilitating access to Entrepreneurship resources and events. Students willing to start their own company can access the Area 31 incubator or the Venture Lab accelerator. Students can find support from numerous Entrepreneurs-in-Residence as well as Mentors and Investors-in-Residence. Selected ventures can further be selected to seek funding at Venture Days organized both in Spain and abroad. There is also significant support from the Corporate Sponsors of the Entrepreneurship Center as well as from the faculty. Students can access a vast international alumni entrepreneurship network. IE startups include: Source{d}, Bioncotech, Tyba, Busuu, Masmovil, Ninjamails, Marsi Bionics, Canard Drones, Bitbrain.

= Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship   =

1500+ students take part in Entrepreneurship courses each year. Entrepreneurship is at IE by the Entrepreneurship Center and the academic Entrepreneurship Department. Students can take Entrepreneurship courses as part of their BBA and MBA concentration or in the elective components of their degrees. IE is further committed to educational innovation, having pioneered in launching a department for Learning Innovation. IE has released the WOW room as well as high-impact Exponential Learning and several MOOCs and integrates technology to the classroom actively. IE’s online MBA is further ranked #1 worldwide by QS (2018). Other centers that cater to I&E include the Center for Diversity, Center for Corporate Social Innovation, Global Corporation Center and Center for Governance of Change. IE further sponsors or co-organizes several I&E events including: South Summit (largest startup fair in Southern Europe), Thinkers50 and IE Rockets.

= University-Industry Collaboration   =

IE University has been very engaged with both big and small industry players from its foundation. Both master and undergrad students engage with businesses from the start of their programs. Freshers and sophomores are part of the IE Labs, which act as consulting laboratories where they can work first hand with real-world cases. Companies collaborate due to their great interest in out-of-the-box thinking young students can offer to their companies. For instance, 2017’s Tech Lab for master students was sponsored by IBM and mentored students to solve an internal case. In the following years, students have mandatory internships that enrich both their personal careers and the industry. Therefore, when IE students graduate they have a clear picture of the industry’s options and can decide where to kickstart their career path. Regarding the entrepreneurship landscape, IE has developed various initiatives in the past years where businesses either fund, mentor or inspire students that want to develop their own projects. Examples of these are the Repsol Foundation Entrepreneurs Fund or the IE Rockets, which acts as an incubator for education startups.

= Regional and Local Economic Development  =

The School places a profound importance in the development both on an economic and social aspect within the local and regional community. Several projects within IE University strive to connect the IE institution on a local level especially in our campus located in Segovia, within the fields of creativitiy, design, social entrepreneurship and innovation. 

Few exampes of such project would be the HAY Festival which is a creative festival striving to connect the Segovian local Community and IE University as this one sponsores and organises it. A second project called 180 Degrees Consulting - IE Branch is also an opportunity to do pro-bono consulting being in direct contact with local NGOs that need support on an economical and social entrepreneurial level and thus build a bridge to share resources between the students and the local community.

Sole is a student at IE University, majoring in a double bachelor in Politics, Law and Economics. This degree helps her in connecting the dots between many important aspects of our society, in order to create solutions to big world challenges. She was born and raised in Italy, and she showed interest in voluntary work since an early age. Firstly helping in local communities for elderly people and children with serious illnesses in Milan, Sole then moved also to bigger communities and went to Peru for a summer to help families and children in need and is now trying to create a community at her university in order to avoid food waste by donating it to the people that need it. Other than this big passion, she has also particular interest in Law, as she believes that law is a language that people need to learn in order to help and create opportunities for the others. Sole recently joined the University Innovation Fellows program as a candidate, through which she hopes to create, together with her team, the beginning of a long journey towards a better future for everyone.

== 1973 ==

IE Business School opens its doors in 1973, offering a number of MBA programs in Madrid’s business district. It’s in the 80’s when it cements as a school with an innovative entrepreneurial vision with the creation of its Centre for Entrepreneurship and Alumni Association and opens more than 29 development offices around the world.

== 1990’s ==

With this innovative mindset, IE pioneers in e-learning launching its first blended programs. Additionally, Building on this spirit of joint venture, IE collaborates with other institutions, such as Brown University in the United States to joint programs. IE currently enjoys agreements and collaborations with around 100 prestigious schools in Europe, the United States, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

== 2000’s ==

IE University begins its first undergraduate programs in 2006, a critical milestone for the institution. Students come from all around the world to the Segovia and Madrid campuses to study practical and innovative degrees. Based on IE’s world-renowned entrepreneurial model, these programs shape the new generation of professionals with continual guidance from the institution’s unique, highly experienced faculty.

== Today ==

IE University’s diverse and talented faculty comprises of over 500 professors to meet the needs of the 130 nationalities that make up our Bachelor, Master, PhD and Executive programs. We currently have over 60,000 alumni making tracks and driving innovation in a number of sectors around the world.

== Future ==

IE University will be expanding in 2020 to the first vertical campus in Spain at Madrid’s new skyscraper where more than 6,000 students from all around the world will experience a redefinition of higher education where technology and business is combined with humanities.

= Student Entrepreneurship  =

Entrepreneurship and Innovation are two of the four IE pillars, alongside Humanities and Diversity. Students are exposed to entrepreneurship and innovation through their academic programs as well as University-wide programs facilitating access to Entrepreneurship resources and events. Students willing to start their own company can access the Area 31 incubator or the Venture Lab accelerator. Students can find support from numerous Entrepreneurs-in-Residence as well as Mentors and Investors-in-Residence. Selected ventures can further be selected to seek funding at Venture Days organized both in Spain and abroad. There is also significant support from the Corporate Sponsors of the Entrepreneurship Center as well as from the faculty. Students can access a vast international alumni entrepreneurship network. IE startups include: Source{d}, Bioncotech, Tyba, Busuu, Masmovil, Ninjamails, Marsi Bionics, Canard Drones, Bitbrain.

= Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship   =

1500+ students take part in Entrepreneurship courses each year. Entrepreneurship is at IE by the Entrepreneurship Center and the academic Entrepreneurship Department. Students can take Entrepreneurship courses as part of their BBA and MBA concentration or in the elective components of their degrees. IE is further committed to educational innovation, having pioneered in launching a department for Learning Innovation. IE has released the WOW room as well as high-impact Exponential Learning and several MOOCs and integrates technology to the classroom actively. IE’s online MBA is further ranked #1 worldwide by QS (2018). Other centers that cater to I&E include the Center for Diversity, Center for Corporate Social Innovation, Global Corporation Center and Center for Governance of Change. IE further sponsors or co-organizes several I&E events including: South Summit (largest startup fair in Southern Europe), Thinkers50 and IE Rockets.

= University-Industry Collaboration   =

IE University has been very engaged with both big and small industry players from its foundation. Both master and undergrad students engage with businesses from the start of their programs. Freshers and sophomores are part of the IE Labs, which act as consulting laboratories where they can work first hand with real-world cases. Companies collaborate due to their great interest in out-of-the-box thinking young students can offer to their companies. For instance, 2017’s Tech Lab for master students was sponsored by IBM and mentored students to solve an internal case. In the following years, students have mandatory internships that enrich both their personal careers and the industry. Therefore, when IE students graduate they have a clear picture of the industry’s options and can decide where to kickstart their career path. Regarding the entrepreneurship landscape, IE has developed various initiatives in the past years where businesses either fund, mentor or inspire students that want to develop their own projects. Examples of these are the Repsol Foundation Entrepreneurs Fund or the IE Rockets, which acts as an incubator for education startups.

= Regional and Local Economic Development  =

The School places a marked emphasis on unconventional approaches to enduring social problems, many undertaken jointly with key players in the field of process design, creativity, social entrepreneurship and innovation. Current collaborations at IE include partners such as The Hub Madrid, Net Impact and Emzingo to name a few.
