&amp;lt;div&amp;gt;My journey in engineering began in 7th grade when I reveled in learning about simple machines and building structures out of popsicle sticks and hot glue. &amp;amp;nbsp;Joining my high school's FIRST Robotics Competition team only solidified my love for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). &amp;amp;nbsp;Promptly after graduating high school, I moved from my hometown in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Denver, Colorado to work on the Orion program for a contractor to Lockheed Martin and have been working in space systems ever since. &amp;amp;nbsp;There, I developed test plans for and performed proton radiation, heavy ion radiation, and thermal vacuum tests for qualification of Orion’s camera system. &amp;amp;nbsp;I returned to Colorado for three consecutive summers to continue my work testing and supporting design of the camera system. &amp;amp;nbsp;In addition to working on the camera system in the summer of 2016, I supported the development of Lockheed Martin’s Mars Base Camp for which I performed various analyses and designed CAD models of preliminary architecture.&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;br/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;div&amp;gt;Now a mechanical engineering student at WPI in Worcester, Massachusetts, I am the president of the Satellite Development Club where I am leading a team of 30 undergraduate and graduate students to design and build small satellites for a NASA challenge. &amp;amp;nbsp;A Milwaukee, Wisconsin native, I am a proud alumna of FIRST Robotics Competition team #1714, MORE Robotics, and Project Lead the Way engineering curriculum. &amp;amp;nbsp;I am interested in space environment testing, project management, psychology, graphic design, branding, and all things engineering. &amp;amp;nbsp;As I begin my career after college, I plan to work as an engineer then take on managerial roles and eventually earn a master’s degree and an MBA. &amp;amp;nbsp;I love taking on new challenges and learning skills in and outside of engineering fields.&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;br/&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&amp;lt;div&amp;gt;Learn more about me at www.rachelewelch.com&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;lt;/div&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Harvard’s Introduction to Computer Science course, CS50, is a popular class not only at Harvard but also around the world. &amp;amp;nbsp;It is available free to the public via&amp;amp;nbsp;&amp;lt;u&amp;gt;edX.org&amp;lt;/u&amp;gt;, a hub for online classes hosted by over 90 of the world's top Universities. &amp;amp;nbsp;It is a means for anyone who has an interest to learn to code and is a valuable resource to Fellows in particular. &amp;amp;nbsp;Topics covered in this class include abstraction, algorithms, data structures, encapsulation, resource management, security, software engineering, and web development. A wide variety of languages are covered as well including C, Python, SQL, and JavaScript plus CSS and HTML.&lt;br /&gt;

One Fellow, Trevor Nicks, leveraged the class to not only teach himself a valuable skill, but also to establish it as an accredited course at his university, William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. Trevor did not allow the lack of a programming course at his school to discourage his intellectual pursuit, and instead paved the way to help others achieve a higher level of academic freedom.&amp;amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;

Creating a new class in a different medium required him to communicate frequently with administration and stay on top of bureaucratic demands. Though it may seem straightforward for a school to add a new class, administration must tackle restraints that are usually unseen from the outside. Time and patience are necessary. Harvard’s Introduction to Computer Science course, CS50, is a popular class not only at Harvard but also around the world. &amp;amp;nbsp;It is available free to the public via edX.org, a hub for online classes hosted by a number of top universities. &amp;amp;nbsp;It is a means for anyone who has an interest to learn to code and is a valuable resource to Fellows in particular. &amp;amp;nbsp;One Fellow, Trevor Nicks, leveraged the class to not only teach himself a valuable skill, but also to establish it as an accredited course at his university, William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.&lt;br /&gt;
