As a part of his project teams, hehas frequent discussions with his team members regarding the implementation of new ideas and is always willing to take up responsibilities.

He is also the organizer of one of the biggest hackathons in DelhiNCR , HackTREC (hacktrec.in)

He supports Free & Open Source Software with a passion and is a Campus Ambassador for Mozilla as well as Fedora .

A "Maker" by heart , he is constantly experimenting with various bleeding edge technologies and hacking together innovative software applications

This became evident during my interaction with him while he preparing for his internship at Venturesity, Bangalore as an Algorithmic Problems Setter Intern, when he asked for my assistance to apply there.<span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:'Times New Roman'; color:#000000; background-color:transparent; font-weight:400; font-style:normal; font-variant:normal; text-decoration:none; vertical-align:baseline" id="docs-internal-guid-fdaa4132-4a57-b722-6ee0-dda9a566d4f8">He has always been a critical thinker who takes an unusual path. He is a part of the oldest running Technical Club, ABES Technovation and although being in 2nd<span style="font-size:11pt; font-family:'Times New Roman'; color:#000000; background-color:transparent; font-weight:400; font-style:normal; font-variant:normal; text-decoration:none; vertical-align:baseline">Year (last semester), he always took the lead to solve the problems that ranged from pre-planning to onsite-issues. His energy and enthusiasm induced his fellow students and inspired his juniors to process their thoughts in their own creative ways.

CodeForces Div 2 Contest, etc., in which he consistently stands amongst top 3 in this institution and a reputable rank Worldwide. Being a part of the CodeChef ABESEC Campus Chapter Club, he has always been the inspiring figure for his juniors as he, instead of directing them to learn a given concept, makes them understand “how to learn learning”. He is a selfless person who has been frequently seen to dedicate insane amount of time helping his fellow.

Kushagra Saxena is a University Innovation Fellow and an undergraduate studying in ABES Engineering College(AKTU). He has an excellent ability as a student for logical and intuitive thinking, Kushagra has proved himself to be a talented and brilliant student. He has exceptional skills when it comes to grasping the things and to solve problems related to them. He has worked with a team as an iOS and backend developer and has done several live company projects. His activeness is also one of the proofs of his confidence and a quality as an initiator. He had also managed some stalls at the school fest and was a major team member in a Bio project at High School.

== Overview ==

ABES Engineering College (also known as ABESEC) is a self-financed engineering college, situated in Ghaziabad, NCR, India. The institute is affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and the students are admitted on the basis of State Entrance Examination - APJAKTU (commonly known as UPSEE).[2] The college was earlier affiliated to Mahamaya Technical University until 2013, when the two universities (GBTU and MTU) were again united and the institute came under the jurisdiction of the current university.

Institute's campus, spread over 15.2 acres (62,000 m2), is situated at Lal Kuan, Delhi-Hapur bypass Road, NH-24, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Aryabhata block and Bhabha blocks are the main buildings of the institute, facing the highway. Behind the two blocks is Raman block which hosts the institute's auditorium, named after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The air conditioned Central Library, spread over 150 square metres (1,600 sq ft), is located in the Bhabha Block and holds around 50,000 titles.

The institute has a cricket sports ground(for all), and indoor sports facilities for Table Tennis and Billiards(only for hostel students). The institute hosts five boys hostels named Vivekanand Bhawan, Ramakrishna Bhawan,Dayanand bhawan,Chanakya bhawan and the more recently built Aurobindo Bhawan. The two girls hostels are christened as Vidushi Bhawan "A" and Vidushi Bhawan "B".

== Student Entrepreneurship ==

ABES is currently housing 3 startups in CARE’s upcoming Incubator(currently in Beta Stage) The On-Campus Entrepreneurship club is a regular participant at various national level entrepreneurship competitions .

ABES attempts to provide many resources for entrepreneurship, such as 3-D printers, Maker parties, hackTREC, and more. ABES also offers funding for entrepreneurs on the rise.

== Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship ==

ABES regularly hosts various Faculty development programs for various technical and non-technical fields.

Many of our faculties are regularly involved in projects utilising bleeding edge technologies in innovative ways

== University - Industry Collaboration ==

ABES has a few programs that allow university-industry collaboration. ABES is working on increasing university and local industry collaboration. Some of the programs that exist today are CARE (Centre for Applied Research and Entrepreneurship), Hackathons (recently hosted one of the best Student organized hackathons in Delhi NCR , hacktrec.in ). Currently, ABES is working to create a better growth environment to fully tap every student’s potential.

Academy of Business and Engineering Sciences (ABES) was established in 2000 with MCA, B.Tech. in CS, IT and EC. The institute was approved by AICTE and was affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University. Resource:How to incorporate design thinking into a freshman engineering course.

An example of a successful case study in curricular change comes with the work of Kathryn “KC” Christopher at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Christopher became a University Innovation Fellow her senior year at GVSU and used her knowledge of design thinking through and into graduate school there to affect change on the engineering curriculum.

Design thinking, however, is important for not just engineering majors, but across all areas of study in higher education.  This article focuses on one example of how a student can change the course of a degree program at her school and this can be replicated in any discipline at any school.  

== NEED AND GOAL ==

The need identified in this  ‘How To” is the need for change in an underclassman curriculum. A popular topic in the UIF exploration of higher education is the incorporation of design thinking, which can be incorporated into many different courses of study: art, business, and entrepreneurship are examples. 

As an engineering student, Kathryn “KC” Christopher recognized an opportunity for improvement in the freshman engineering curriculum.  Before KC was able to make some changes, the curriculum was very cut and dry.  She worked on implementing creative thinking in design, and introducing this thought process early on in the freshman engineering courses.  Her work has granted her an invitation to join the committee that develops course curriculum, and has affected real change in the course curriculum, beginning in the fall semester of 2016.

== ACADEMIC PERMISSION ==

<span style="font-size:13.333333333333332px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">Once the direction and type of changes to the curriculum are decided on, the end “goal” of the work will be to gain academic permission for the changes to be made. In some cases, permission comes from faculty support and committee acceptance (in KC’s case), and in others it requires a more stringent administrative review.

For engineering curriculum change at GVSU, KC worked building momentum through conversations with faculty as well as spent time doing “the leg work” in prototyping the end product--she made mock slides for lectures, wrote out lessons, and presented her argument a number of times.

<span style="font-size:13.333333333333332px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">She first interacted with the students during her time as a GA.  She realized their needs and the importance of design thinking in their classes.  As she progressed through her degree, she saw in her own work that she did not learn enough about design thinking early on and it made it more difficult as she progressed through her degree.  When she became a GA she had the opportunity to start creating real change and the students were her first supporters.  Getting a large audience on board was an important step.

<span style="font-size:13.333333333333332px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">Secondly, faculty support is crucial to creating change in curriculum.  They are the ones who teach the classes on a daily basis and know all of the connections needed to change the direction of a course.  KC mentioned being a Grad Assistant was very helpful because she was working with these professors that eventually led her to the right people and helped her create change.

Lastly, administration was the most difficult for KC to receive support from.  It was important to get these large figures on campus on board, but it was harder to get them invested financially.  Christopher turned to administrators last, once her plans were firm and she had a large group of support.  This is always the hardest to receive support from, because they don’t see how it can change the campus immediately.  They usually see it as money they have to spend, and this is why it is hard to get them invested financially.

Creating buy-in in faculty is therefore critical in making real and lasting curriculum change; if teachers do not believe in it, they will not pass it on to students.

<span style="font-size:13.333333333333332px;font-family:Arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;font-weight:400;font-style:normal;font-variant:normal;text-decoration:none;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;">In Kathryn Christopher’s work changing the curriculum, she used conversations with faculty on the engineering design process to learn more about the professorial perspective on what engineering is and how it should be taught. It took many conversations to understand their perspective, including their reticence and resistance to what they saw as “fad” terminology, including “design thinking.” In becoming a graduate assistant in the engineering department, Christopher eventually shifted into more of a colleague role rather than a student role when approaching faculty, which allowed her to gain a greater understanding of their perspective.

It may be important to research key positions in curriculum development at your university--are there course coordinators, like at GVSU, who take leadership roles in curriculum design? Or are there committees? Who sits on the committees? Understanding who wields the most direct power is important in targeting your efforts and effectively networking.

Understanding what engages the students, what they feel is most effective, matters a great deal. Engage with those who are participating in the course you want to change and see what they have to say. Looking at the curriculum from their perspective gives added insight when shaping a design thinking experience. But, don’t limit the audience to current students. Students who complete the courses and then advance to real-world experiences may offer valuable critiques on how well their courses prepared them for what goes on outside the classroom.

Christopher had a number of perspectives at hand in her experience: being a graduate assistant, she saw the curriculum both as a teacher and through the feedback of current students, whom she could communicate with. Having gone through those same courses herself as an undergraduate, she could also judge their historic effectiveness in her own education.

One of the best time-related piece of advice she shared was the importance of being in the right place and the right time, but being prepared for when that time comes. So, expanding on that lesson, it can never be too early to research and get to know the atmosphere of your respective university in order to be ready for when an opportunity to advance your cause appears.

As an orientation leader aiding incoming students in their transition from high school to undergrad, Magann worked with a multitude of departments to bring a UIF initiative focused on design thinking to her campus. In this article, we will illustrate Magann’s process behind launching this initiative at her university and how to measure the success of your own UIF initiative.

The "how" is simple: teamwork makes the dream work. Below is a guide for planning your UIFresh event and learning from it in order to facilitate future improvements to your event model.

=== Administration ===

          When coming up with events to involve your freshmen, it will take collaboration from many people. Some of the most important and helpful in this process will be your school’s administration and faculty or third-party resources (i.e. a company for funding or hosting). It is important for you to build intimate connections to these people, and this is one of the purposes of the stakeholder meeting. For your stakeholder meeting, be sure to choose a few people who are seen as leaders and benefactors of the freshmen class. In general, these people are your go-to when complications (e.g. building lock-outs, insufficient funding, and event planning mistakes) arise that are out of your and your fellow peers’ hands.

=== Logistics ===

           The event will involve both the fellows and candidates working together in the planning phase, coming up with a time-table, and executing the plan: setting up tables during the event itself and gathering supplies as necessary. Each member should be able to choose their role in the activity. Coordinate with the orientation staff in advance; the orientation staff training is a great opportunity to test out the activities planned for the UIFresh event.

           The coordinator must ensure that the event venue is accessible for setup according to your schedule by figuring out ahead of time if there is a specific process to obtain access, or to determine the times during which the venue will be restricted or closed. This is applicable to other campus facilities and equipments, and will serve to minimize complications on D-day.

          Orientation leaders will be responsible for gathering, dispersing, or ushering students to the venue and towards particular activities. If there are multiple locations, communication between the facilitators must be maintained so that each group may cross-reference and adapt in response to observations of students and logistical problems.

=== Orientation Staff ===

           When planning a UIFresh event, you must consider communicating with the orientation staff to fit the orientation schedule. This is where your skills in communication, compromise, and presenting come in. First off, make sure to pitch the UIFresh initiative to the head of the orientation staff far ahead of time. Have a presentation prepared and be ready to answer expected questions. It would also help to have a letter from a member of the UIF team that has great influence (such as Humera).

           Once the orientation team is on board (yay!), the next step is to get the orientation staff up to date. Work with them to find a good day for implementing the event. Then find a good amount of time to meet up with the team and start communicating and bouncing ideas off each other. This is a good time to explain to the orientation staff what UIF and UIFresh entails. Orientation Leaders and the UIF’s are a team at this point, so it is a good idea to ask their opinions and get them to learn the activities that will be done during the event.

           Talk amongst the team of UIF’s and Orientation Leader to get them involved in the event, have them help with rounding up and assigning students to teams. Finally, when the event ends, they can help get feedback and debrief students about what they learned and their opinions on the activities.

Measuring the success of a UIFresh initiative is not a black and white matter. It is difficult to have exact numbers that indicate a successful initiative. Therefore, you must work to combine qualitative and quantitative data to assess the impact you make and to identify improvements you can make for future events.

          One of the most valuable ways to determine success is to evaluate how the students engage in the events. Do the students seem engaged and happy to be taking part in the activities you are leading? Are they learning the objectives you are trying to teach them? This may be something executed in real time, while you are doing the event with the students. It is important to talk to the students, asking them what they’re doing and seeing if they understand the activity. Make adjustments on the spot if you find that the students could learn better or be more engaged. Being flexible and prepared to change your plans is very i!mportant when leading a UIFresh event. There is no 5-step plan for evaluating engagement, it takes paying attention as a leader to the reaction of the students and subsequently feeling out the results. It will be different for every event, every campus, and every group that does the activity. Getting direct feedback from the participants at the end of the event - discussed more thoroughly in the next section - is a great way to see what changes need to be made for the next group and evaluate the success of the last group.

Something to define me : "A curious mind in the sea of knowledge"

Abhishek is an innovator with a never ending thirst for knowledge . He is an active participant at various Innovation related activities both on and off campus.

He is also the organizer of one of the biggest hackathons in DelhiNCR , HackTREC (hacktrec.in)

He supports Free & Open Source Software with a passion and is a Campus Ambassador for Mozilla as well as Fedora .

A "Maker" by heart , he is constantly experimenting with various bleeding edge technologies and hacking together innovative software applications

Abhishek's motivation for being a University Innovation fellow lie primarily in spreading knowledge and inculcating a Innovation focused ecosystem in the ABES's academic centric system.

== Overview ==

ABES Engineering College (also known as ABESEC) is a self-financed engineering college, situated in Ghaziabad, NCR, India. The institute is affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and the students are admitted on the basis of State Entrance Examination - APJAKTU (commonly known as UPSEE).[2] The college was earlier affiliated to Mahamaya Technical University until 2013, when the two universities (GBTU and MTU) were again united and the institute came under the jurisdiction of the current university.

Institute's campus, spread over 15.2 acres (62,000 m2), is situated at Lal Kuan, Delhi-Hapur bypass Road, NH-24, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Aryabhata block and Bhabha blocks are the main buildings of the institute, facing the highway. Behind the two blocks is Raman block which hosts the institute's auditorium, named after Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The air conditioned Central Library, spread over 150 square metres (1,600 sq ft), is located in the Bhabha Block and holds around 50,000 titles.

The institute has a cricket sports ground(for all), and indoor sports facilities for Table Tennis and Billiards(only for hostel students). The institute hosts five boys hostels named Vivekanand Bhawan, Ramakrishna Bhawan,Dayanand bhawan,Chanakya bhawan and the more recently built Aurobindo Bhawan. The two girls hostels are christened as Vidushi Bhawan "A" and Vidushi Bhawan "B".

== Student Entrepreneurship ==

ABES is currently housing 3 startups in CARE’s upcoming Incubator(currently in Beta Stage) The On-Campus Entrepreneurship club is a regular participant at various national level entrepreneurship competitions .

ABES attempts to provide many resources for entrepreneurship, such as 3-D printers, Maker parties, hackTREC, and more. ABES also offers funding for entrepreneurs on the rise.

== Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship ==

ABES regularly hosts various Faculty development programs for various technical and non-technical fields.

Many of our faculties are regularly involved in projects utilising bleeding edge technologies in innovative ways

== University - Industry Collaboration ==

ABES has a few programs that allow university-industry collaboration. ABES is working on increasing university and local industry collaboration. Some of the programs that exist today are CARE (Centre for Applied Research and Entrepreneurship), Hackathons (recently hosted one of the best Student organized hackathons in Delhi NCR , hacktrec.in ). Currently, ABES is working to create a better growth environment to fully tap every student’s potential.

ABES has various MoUs with signed with companies such as TechMahindra , Texas Instruments .

*SIGs will be accessible to every student of the college , no matter their majors

Makerspace(Awareness about prototyping)

*Use Google Classrooms to provide a weekly topic for prototyping
*If possible , each class should have a weekly session at the makerspace regarding the topic
*Currently, students who are interested in entrepreneurship have to be a part of CARE and are only allowed to use it once their product is out of prototyping stage , A makerspace is needed, as we can motivate the students to create prototypes on a regular basis .

== Strategy #3 Introduction to Entrepreneurship ==

*Various SIGs (Special Interest Groups) established in Phase 0 (Strategy #0) will have matured enough to host I&E related events in their respective interest areas.
*The already emerging Leaders will have a chance to bootstrap this whole process from the grassroot level by organizing intra college events which further advertise about the I&E ecosystem.

== Strategy #4 Networking / Spin Out ==

*To combat the complete lack of Spin Out related activities , we want the new Leadership Circle to venture outwards and create a network based on their interests and thus bridge the current gap.
*Opportunity to connect with people outside the campus , by attending various meetups & Events (Hackathons)
*Provide incentives to students for attending such events and sharing their experience.
