=Priorities(2022)=

==Strategy #1: Financial Literacy==
After conducting surveys, we have concluded that our student body is in need of financial literacy courses. The financial literacy courses will be based on credit and knowledge about student loans. Many students are not confident in their knowledge about credit and about how much they will owe during student loan repayment. As University Innovation Fellows, we want to work towards hosting routine seminars where guest speakers come and talk to students about various topics surrounding financial literacy. We also plan to engage with the financial literacy center and faculty members at the College of Business to work on this.

==Strategy #2: Increase Student reach of Innovation Center==
The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a maker space with facilities for e-sports, gaming stations, VR, 3D printing, laser cutting, silhouette cutter, embroidery, t-shirt, and poster design, and printing. In our research, we found out that there were a couple of main points that students face that, if addressed, could increase the center's visibility.

We will do the following:

#Engaging university communications through the student today's email newsletter to spread information about the center. We also intend to lobby for a new, catchy design outside the center. Since the center faces the advisement which a lot of students, having a catchy design could insight interests and get more students to visit
#Asking faculty for space in their lesson schedules to share about the center and the services provided. This will give us access to where the students are. Also, ask for faculty to request their students to visit the center for some of the classes (by the center or inspired by faculty) and offer credit as an incentive.
#Introduce short training and self-guided lessons on how to be creative with equipment at the center. Most of the training offered at the center tends to run long-term, especially over the summer. So having this will ensure that skill transfer is happening and offer students an opportunity to be creative and innovative during the school semester. Also, we would like to engage staff on how to structure these offerings to create a schedule that allows for more student participation with little conflict with class timetables. Eventually, we will have to
#Engage with Faculty and staff leading the center to teach licensing, patenting, and design thinking. We did a survey that indicated a strong interest in these areas. We hope to transfer some of the modules that we learned during the University Innovation Fellows training and curate them to meet the needs of the JSU community.

== Strategy #3: Spread More Information about Services offered by Careers Center ==
During our interviews with faculty and staff at the Careers Services Center, we found that there are a number of programs/services that they offer that many students aren't aware of. These include:

* Mock interview software
* Free headshots
* Resume critique
* Student spotlight

Our goal is to get more students to become aware of these programs.

Throughout this movement, I will be gathering a team of around 20-30 student leaders to become part of a leadership circle. This movement's mission is to empower the students on JSU's campus to step into roles as producers and initiators. With the resources already in existence, and those that are soon becoming available, I feel it's only right that all students have equal access to those as anyone else would. The students should be the key game-changers on our campus and the administration should play the supporting role, seeing as how the university is meant for the advancement of the student. In stating all of this, our mission is also to promote interdisciplinary activities so that the different colleges on campus aren't segregated any longer. Every department on campus should function as one cohesive unit.

Mahlangu is a rising sophomore at the illustrious Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born and raised in the Republic of Zambia, which is home to the Victoria Falls, one of the world's seven wonders.

Mahlangu moved to the United States in August 2021 to study Computer Engineering after receiving a Presidential Scholarship to Jackson State University thanks to the New Seasons Youth Program in Conyers, Georgia, and its director, Ray Jackson.

"I've always wanted to attend college in a first-world country, and then bring my experience back to Zambia," he says. His first CS lesson was on information encoding in binary notation, which he fell in love with; ever since, his friends have affectionately referred to him as Uncle Binary, Uncle B for short.

His hobbies include cycling, guitar playing, reading, and attending hackathons.
