He is also a huge advocate for anything involving hash browns. Nick a Sophomore from Bow, New Hampshire studying Business at the University of New Hampshire. He plans to pursue a dual focus in Finance and Entrepreneurial Studies. Nick loves learning about new technologies and their future applications, like blockchain, artificial intelligence, and an IoT connected world. Music, exercise, friends, and family are a huge part of his life. At school, the two extracurriculars most important to him are Alpha Kappa Psi and the Rines Angel Fund. Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed professional business fraternity. With over 80 members from a handful of disciplines, each "brother" brings a unique piece of value to the group. Nick found Alpha Kappa Psi to be a great way to build relationships with like-minded people, as well as an exceptional way to build on his professional background. The Rines Angel Fund is a multidisciplinary, undergraduate managed, private equity angel investment group. Students get to interact with entrepreneurs and listen to them give their pitches. After that, we perform a due diligence research project where we learn more about the market that the startup operates in, the entrepreneurs' team, and the ins and outs of their product. Next, we decide whether to invest seed stage funding in their product or service. It has been a great opportunity to learn more about what it takes to bring an idea to commercialization as well as how a startup company receives its funding. After college, he hopes to pursue a lifelong career where I can use his innate curiosity and amiable communication skills to find solutions to some of the world's pressing problems.

*We are going to work at merging together three current student organizations together into a single larger organization.
*The organizations involved within this merge are TechX, Entrepreneurship Club, and MarkerSpace.
*This new organization will hold numerous events per week including different specialty events to cater to all interests.

[ Spring 2017 ]
= Create digital platform for idea connection board =

[ Fall 2016 ]

*Through our partners at the UNH ECenter, as a cohort, we will build and manage a new online idea connection network page.
*Over time we will recruit new students to manage the page.
*This new format will include a physical kiosk within the ECenter as well as an online mobile platform.

= '''[[File:UNHlogo.png|thumb|University of New Hampshire]]PROMOTING STUDENT INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP''' =

The University of New Hampshire is one of only 17 institutions in the nation designated as a land, sea, and space grant. As a premier research institution, UNH is home to a wide array of high quality faculty of diverse fields of study who share an interest in tackling the grand challenges of the day. The focus on inspiring and transforming students, especially through enriching programs of study with hands-on research experiences provides an excellent platform for students the engage in innovation and entrepreneurship. The newly formed ECenter (entrepreneurship center) was created to fill some of the final gaps in the I&E ecosystem by creating a centralized, college agnostic, integrated solution, it’s even equipped with a student-run makerspace. One challenge before us is that students, for the most part, have not discovered how or why I&E is important to them. They have not discovered that they are the change agents the world needs, and that they have the power to help address some of the most grandiose challenges of the day. The second challenge to the UNH I&E landscape is that if UNH’s legislative support were to be doubled tomorrow, it would still be the least state funded public school in the nation; receiving about 10% of the annual budget from the state compared a national average of around 50%.

= '''ENCOURAGING FACULTY INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP''' =

There are many serial entrepreneurs among the UNH faculty, as well as many research areas which demonstrate exciting potential commercial applications. UNHInnovation - the department home to the ECenter, technology transfer office, and more - does actively encourage and support faculty engaging in entrepreneurship. The university is also in a period of ushering in newer and younger faculty, who have a different perspective on launching a start-up out of their research. There is interest in leveraging that change within the university leadership to promote the encouragement of faculty innovators. Events such as the annual Innovators Dinner are crucial to the celebration of faculty innovators and provide a cultural mechanism to reinforce the importance of I&E.

= '''TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER''' =

UNH has a strong technology transfer office, which works closely with researchers to provide not only intellectual asset management support, but also a wide array of business development resources. The technology transfer office also engages in outreach efforts to encourage the disclosure of inventions that might otherwise have gone unreported. It also encourages and supports inventors of technology who are commercializing their innovations, or the technology transfer office will work to find a licensee bringing royalties to the inventors, their department, and the University at large.

= '''UNIVERSITY - INDUSTRY COLLABORATION''' =

Under the guidance of the UNHInnovation office, a new initiative to create a holistic centered approach to corporate, public, and economic engagement is beginning. There is an innovative, high-powered staff dedicated to promoting new relationships with partners in research collaboration, technology licensing, academic partnerships, workforce preparation, and donations solicitation.

= '''FUTURE WORK''' =

It is a spectacular time to be an innovative student at UNH, with the chance to bear witness to the sweeping positive changes underway. Not to say that there are no challenges. It is important to encourage more students to think about taking on the grand challenges of the day. This includes creating in-roads between the silos that arise out of differences in fields of specialization by promoting interdisciplinary interactions. It also means creating a shared mechanism to introduce students in all disciplines to innovation and entrepreneurship to teach it as a mindset to form a common basis as they go on to learn specialized skills. Finally, we need to find a source of funding to support these new initiatives and grow those already in place.

There are many serial entrepreneurs among our faculty, and many research areas which demonstrate very exciting potential commercial applications. UNHInnovation, the department home to the ECenter, technology transfer office, and more does actively encourage and support faculty (and students) engaging in entrepreneurship. The university is also in a period of ushering in newer and younger faculty, who tend to be more interested in launching a start-up out of their research and there is interest in leveraging that change within the university leadership to promote further encourage of faculty innovators. Events like the annual Innovators Dinner, celebrate faculty innovators and provide a cultural mechanism to reinforce the importance of I&E.

= '''TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER''' =

UNH has a strong technology transfer office, which works closely with researchers to provide not only intellectual asset management support but also a wide array of business development resources. The technology transfer office also engages in outreach efforts to encourage the disclosure of inventions that might otherwise have gone unreported, encourages and supports inventors of technology commercializing it themselves or will work to find a licensee bringing royalties to the inventors, their department and the university at large.

= '''UNIVERSITY - INDUSTRY COLLABORATION''' =

Under the guidance of the UNHInnovation office, a new initiative to create a holistic centered approach to corporate, public, and economic engagement. There is a new high-powered staff dedicated to promoting new relationships with partners in research collaboration, technology licensing, academic partnerships, workforce preparation, donations solicitation, and more.

= '''FUTURE WORK''' =

It is a really exciting time to be at UNH and have the chance to bear witness to the sweeping positive changes underway. That is not to say we are without challenges. We need to encourage more students to think about taking on the grand challenges of the day, create in roads between the silos that arise out of differences in fields of specialization by promoting interdisciplinary interactions, and create a shared mechanism to introduce students in all discipline to innovation and entrepreneurship to teach entrepreneurship as a mindset to form a common basis as they go on to learn specialized skills. Finally, we need to find a source of funding to support these new initiatives and grow those already in place.
One reason the short talk model works is that it only demands the audience's’ attention for a short period of time. Thus, decreasing the chances of minds wandering or daydreaming. In fact, some of the greatest TED Talks were as short as 5 minutes. [http://ted.com/ ted.com]uploads these talks online for users across the world to access them for free.

Hannah did not apply for the license, instead one of her team members applied for it as an individual. Since TED only allows one license holder for each TEDx event, Hannah did not have to get the license. Before issuing the license, people at TED make sure that the person applying is passionate about his or her TEDx event topic. That was one of the reasons why it took Hannah’s friend 5 tries to get the license. But eventually, he got it and became part of the TED community. One piece of advice that Hannah had was to not get discouraged by being rejected and to keep pursuing the license. The license can be used for no more than a 150 person event. Hannah found that a great way to get around this was to cycle people in the audience in between speakers, effectively allowing her event to have 300 people.

After getting the license, Hannah identified people on her campus who were interested in working with her. Once she had her team selected, Hannah started to build good relationships with them because:
1) She would be working with them for the next several months.
2) They were part of her team now and if she don’t know who she was working with, was creating a team even worth it?

Hannah’s next step in organizing a TEDx event was to pick a date for the event and build a timeline. When picking a date, she made sure to avoid major holidays or events.

Next, Hannah, along with her team, used TEDx guide, available at [http://www.ted.com/participate/organize-a-local-tedx-event ted.com], as a resource to identify key resources needed for the event.

In order to have as many people as possible involved and to have diversity among the speakers, Hannah and her team sent out flash news to alumni, current students, and community members who might have had good ideas and wanted to spread them through TEDx event. They came up with an application that was filled by the candidates. This was a good way to figure out who was the best fit for the event. While reading the applications submitted by the speakers, Hannah noticed that there were two versions of speeches. They are:

Basic idea that almost everyone knows about but the speaker has a compelling new argument about it.

SPEAKER COACHES

Commonly overlooked, speaker coaches are vital to producing a quality TEDx talk. Many speakers have great idea, but lack in public speaking skills. If the ideas are not well articulated, they may not reach the audience with the intended effect. This is why speaker coaches are an essential component for TEDx events.

Speaker coaches can help speakers refine their presentations through collaboration, practice, and constructive feedback. To build a team of speaker coaches, Hannah looked at her campus for people with a focus in communication. If you are unable to find good candidates for speaker coaches on your campus, you may have to hire some professionals. This, also, is a great time to find sponsors who would be willing to pay for speaker coaches or other costs associated with the event.

STAGE AND VIDEO PRODUCTION
When hosting a TEDx event, you and your team will be required to manage the stage and video production. Although there isn’t a specific stage design required for TEDx events, it is recommended to have a large, red TEDx logo present on one side of the stage. While planning your stage design it is good to reach out to your school’s theater department, if there is one, and get them involved in the team.

When it comes to video production, hiring a professional team to produce and edit the videos can be quite expensive. So, it’s best to find people on your campus (i.e. in film and media clubs) that have photography/filming skills.

Hannah and her team got some businesses to sponsor their event. So, they inserted a slide at the beginning and end of each speaker’s presentation to advertise their sponsors.

Hannah had many sponsors telling her that they will only sponsor if Hannah let one of their speakers speak during the event. Hannah and her team refused the offers because they knew that those speakers would not be spreading ideas related to the event topic, instead they would be using the event as a marketing opportunity for their businesses.
