Myisha Roberson Moore earned her Bachelor's and Master's in Biology and Doctor of Philosophy in Material Science and Engineering at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. She has 12 years of experience working in education and research (particularly in STEM) positions. Myisha is a curious scientist with expertise in strategic planning, problem solving and project management within high-profile, academic organizations.

As a graduate student, Myisha expanded research on the measurement of wound healing and tested an originally developed protocol involving nanomedicine in vivo. To achieve this, she spearheaded the development of groundbreaking antimicrobial nanomaterials, and tested their efficacy in clinical trials. Her unique wound healing therapy significantly decreased wound healing time in the animal models. The manuscript of process was published in 2015 and is available in the Ford Motor Company Library.

Furthermore, Myisha engineered nanomaterials using a novel microwave synthesis technique, that treated bacterial and fungal infections without adverse side effects. Her study’s results showed her engineered nanoparticles reduced the toxicity of compared treatments, making it safer to use in application. This research was published in the NanoLIFE journal in 2014.

As an Innovation Fellow, Myisha has worked to cultivate collaborative relationships with multiple organizations and associations to help solve campus, and community issues. She assisted in strategic planning of a technology transfer office for the commercialization of academic research as well as the development of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship course at Tuskegee University.

Myisha was trained as a University Innovation Fellow in Fall 2014 and attended the Silicon Valley meetup in March 2014. In June 2014, she presented design thinking strategies and innovation and entrepreneurship course ideas at the APLU Student Success Summit in Atlanta, GA alongside other UIF fellows. She also shared information on the UIF program, design thinking strategies and course ideas Science and Technology Open House in Montgomery, AL, later that year.

Ultimately, Myisha’s career goal is to increase student interest and retention in STEM fields using innovation, creativity and design thinking to support the development of novel learning tools and technologies in science education. Her personal interests include volunteering with her sorority and mentoring young women. She also enjoys watching reality tv, travelling and spending time with her family.

The 500 acres (2.0 km2) main campus has more than 65 buildings, and is located in a residential setting at 3500 John A. Merritt Blvd in Nashville, Tennessee. Tennessee State's main campus has the most acres of any college campus in Nashville. The Avon Williams campus is located downtown, near the center of the Nashville business and government district. Tennessee State offers on-campus housing to students. There are on-campus dorms and two apartment complexes for upperclassmen. On-campus facilities include dormitories Wilson Hall, Watson Hall, Eppse Hall, Boyd Hall, Rudolph Hall, Hale Hall, as well as the Ford Complex and New Residence Complex, TSU's two on-campus apartment complexes.

The university is currently accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award 38 baccalaureate degrees, 24 master's degrees, and doctoral degrees in seven areas (Biological Sciences, Computer Information Systems Engineering, Psychology, Public Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration and Supervision, and Physical Therapy), as well as two Associate of Science degree programs, one in nursing and one in dental hygiene.

Tennessee State University sponsors seven men's and eight women's teams in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sanctioned sports and has a rivalry with Kentucky State University. Tennessee State is one of three Division I HBCUs that are not members of the MEAC or SWAC, the others being Hampton University and North Carolina A&T State University of the Big South Conference.

I. Ensure commuter students are able to access campus events. We recommend re-designing the university's website to including a commuter student page or tab and making an application to ensure all students are informed about the university's events.

II. Ensure that commuter students have a lounge on campus. We recommend the use of one or more existing spaces on campus. For example, we think the student lounge in the business building can be renovated and put back in use for commuter students. This will help the students to have a space to eat, study and do homework.

III. Ensure that students with children are able to attend classes and events. We recommend the creation of a childcare program with on-campus facilities and volunteer, student staff. This will help to make it easier for commuter students to attend classes and campus events.

IV. Student Parents on campus diaper bank. Wen want to expand the current childcare program by finding a way to get diapers donated. We also want to find better ways get the word out to students about the program.

Danyelle Tolliver is a non-traditional college student who defied the odds and overcame various challenges to pursue higher education. As a teen mom, Danyelle faced unique obstacles but remained determined to create a better future for herself and her child. Yvonne Ozuzu is a Bowie State University junior nursing student. She is also a single mother with one kid. She is Nigerian, yet she was born and raised in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Her goal is to raise awareness about how critical it is for everyone to get the quality healthcare that they deserve. She considers adequate healthcare to be a fundamental human right. She hopes to create a clinic in the near future where she would give free or low-cost healthcare to individuals who cannot afford it. She is also committed to helping the lives and/or academic careers of young/single moms, knowing firsthand how difficult it may be. She went to Bladensburg High School (class of 2021) and was a member of the PLTW: Biomedical Academy. She is the treasurer of the Bowie State University Student Parent Association. Madisen Is a Sophomore at the first HBCU in the state of Maryland, Bowie State University. For example, we think the student lounge in the business building can be renovated and put back in use for commuter students. This will help the students to have a space to eat, study and do homework.

III. Ensure that students with children are able to attend classes and events. We recommend the creation of a childcare program with on-campus facilities and volunteer, student staff. This will help to make it easier for commuter students to attend classes and campus events.

At Virginia State University, innovation and entrepreneurship are not emphasized as much as it should. We encourage our faculty and staff within our institution to become more supportive and invite more creative thinkers to become the trailblazers in breaking down the barriers. It will allow our institution to soar to new heights that have never been reached and open the door to great opportunities. Faculty are encouraged to create interdisciplinary activities or projects, to create partnerships within our institution. Faculty should be willing to utilize local business and startup company’s problems and present them to students for solutions and the development of an academic portfolio. Faculty should be eager to collaborate on research projects and work together to develop new technologies, products and innovative ideas campus-wide using all available resources. The College of Business is a great resource for the university and should be a tool students can use for financial direction. The College Of Engineering should become the catalyst on-campus for faculty/student innovation and become the vessel for innovation campus-wide. The goals of VSU should not only be to provide opportunities for students to acquire a position within a company, but to help develop a company through understanding of the business. VSU should also provide faculty and staff the capabilities to gain venture funding, develop intellectual property, form a business unit, and truly go out and create a business. VSU should develop a Research / Innovation center that offers mandatory courses and set of programs for all students to help bridge the gap between studies and practice, research and commercialization, and from dreams to reality. These programs should encourage students to understand the process of a product or service fundamentally from early discovery through commercialization. The objective is to help supportive faculty encourage entrepreneurs and promote corporate partnerships and startup companies in hopes that students can commercialize ideas as they reach later stages of studies. One strategy that can help develop this network should be an organization around the idea of entrepreneurship and innovation. An organization that helps students and faculty come together and achieve their common goals through practice. An organization that can help empower a Research / Innovation center can eventually uplift our institution as a whole to increase entrepreneurial spirits campus-wide from networking events, competitive events, speaker series events, projects, and workshops. In a sense, these activities can eventually create avenues for students to soar into heights that some say are unreachable. Let’s break down barriers and Build a Better World, one student at a time.  

Updated information, November 2021:

In September of 2016, the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business has established a VSU Center for Entrepreneurship as an education, research, and planning hub for budding entrepreneurs within not only the student body, but also the entirety of Central Virginia, including minorities and military veterans. This center also provides opportunities for innovation through bi-annual pitch competitions with a prize of $1000. To compound this, a 16 credit Minor in Entrepreneurship is also available for any undergraduate to pursue, along with a prospective certificate program. Additionally, in July of 2021, the VSU Center for Entrepreneurship received $453,000 from GO Virginia, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the creation of a Minority Small Business Leading Center to help early startup companies gain funding and assistance. This program is also targeted towards minority-led businesses.

Greetings, I am Isaac Richardson a second-year Political Science scholar with a minor in Pre-Law at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University (FAMU). I was born and raised in Florida. After I graduate college, I plan to pursue a law degree and become an attorney.

As a student at Florida A&M University, I have had the opportunity to be a part of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund x Citi HBCU Career Incubator Program in New York City, a member of the FAMU NAACP, a member of the FAMU Jamaican American Student Association, a newly inductee and the Press & Publicity chairman of the FAMU Chapter of Progressive Black Men, Inc. , serve as a Student Ambassador for Adobe, and serve as a Near-Peer mentor for the HBCU First Day One Ready internship program. ==Bio==
Brianna McLeod is an 18-year-old born on January 6, 2005. She was born and raised in Queens, New York. Brianna is a second-year Biology Pre-Medicine scholar at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. From a very young age, she has had a lot of ambition and determination to reach her goals. It started when she skipped a grade in elementary school, and her hunger for success grew. Brianna always aspired to make a change in her community and wanted to become a doctor. In college, she maintained a 4.0 GPA, and while taking seven classes, she participated in various community service events and organizations. As a member of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students, Teaching Of Youth Science, and the National Society of Black Women, Brianna tutors students in math and science, volunteers at Tallahassee’s local soup kitchen, builds ramps who the disabled, and more. In addition to that, Brianna also demonstrates leadership amongst her peers. In the Jamaican-American Student Association, Brianna holds the title of secretary. In this position, Brianna plans and documents meetings and events, communicates with the members of the E-Board and Cabinet about tasks, and is in charge of ensuring everyone is doing their part to ensure the success and growth of the organization.

Additionally, Brianna strives to expand her knowledge of the medical world. For example, Brianna is a member of Florida State University Undergraduate Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity & Excellence Program and the Clinical Shadowing and Mentorship Program. In these programs, Brianna mentors and tutors high school students participates in volunteer services, and networks with various physicians. While Brianna is learning about the medical field, she is also taking the steps to gain hands-on patient experience. Over the summer in New York, Brianna, as a member of Mentoring In Medicine, worked as a volunteer at the Montefiore Emergency Department. She cleaned and dressed stretchers, restocked supplies, and comforted patients. Also, Brianna is currently taking a Clinical Medical Assistant course, where she is learning about the fundamentals of electrocardiography, phlebotomy, and assessment and management skills of patient care.

Even though academics are essential to Brianna, she is not within her personality and interests. Brianna loves music and singing. For many years, Brianna has competitively sang, done musical theater, and enjoyed expanding her musical knowledge. Some of her favorite artists are Daniel Caesar, Tyler the Creator, and Jill Scott. Brianna also loves to dance and step and continues to do this in college. Brianna enjoys journaling, reading comics, and binging TV shows. Brianna’s favorite show would be Bridgerton.

Rahsaan Smith is a highly motivated and dedicated individual who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at Morehouse College. As a first-generation college student, Mr. Smith is deeply passionate about mental health and is committed to learning high-income skills that will enable him to make a positive impact in his community. He is continuously seeking new opportunities to expand his knowledge, skills, and network.

Driven by the socioeconomic discrepancies he observed in Oakland and across the nation, he is determined to advocate for systemic changes that uplift marginalized communities.He actively uses his voice and pen to illuminate societal inequalities, hoping to bring about awareness and reform. God, family, and loyalty are his core values and he lives by the quote blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family.

Mr. Smith has gained valuable work and volunteer experience through his involvement in various organizations. He has provided security services for Google and has also worked with Kingmakers of Oakland, the Social Justice Academy, Highlander Research and Education Center, and the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneur Center.

At Kingmakers of Oakland, Mr. Smith was part of a team that developed a plan to introduce an elective class in the Oakland Unified School District aimed at empowering young Black men by educating them on their history and identity. The class, called African American Male Achievement, was designed to create a student leadership council consisting of the top students from each school. The council would then travel to different states to present their curriculum to school board members with the aim of implementing it in their district.

Mr. Smith also gained experience in fundraising and event coordination while working with the Social Justice Academy at San Leandro High School. The academy's annual event, One Love One Mic, was designed to showcase the talents of students in the community with a focus on social justice and the upliftment of marginalized communities. Mr. Smith was an emcee for the event, which helped him develop his confidence in public speaking.

Moreover, Mr. Smith completed a twelve-week consulting internship with the Morehouse Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center. During this internship, he worked with V-Tech Solutions, where he developed numerous skills that were beneficial to his personal and professional growth. Mr. Smith was part of a cohort tasked with assisting businesses to solve company issues, and they had to present a plan to the CEO in teams. This experience provided him with valuable knowledge of problem-solving and pitching.

In conclusion, Rahsaan Smith is a driven and accomplished individual who has demonstrated a commitment to making a positive impact in his community. The Association of Public and Land-grant Universities Office for Access and Success (OAS) announced the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Collaborative (IEC). The HBCU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Collaborative will be a cohort of 15 HBCUs (both private and public) that are committed to participating in a multi-year collaboration that will foster innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship on their respective campuses. At Virginia State University, innovation and entrepreneurship are not emphasized as much as it should. We encourage our faculty and staff within our institution to become more supportive and invite more creative thinkers to become the trailblazers in breaking down the barriers. It will allow our institution to soar to new heights that have never been reached and open the door to great opportunities. Faculty are encouraged to create interdisciplinary activities or projects, to create partnerships within our institution. Faculty should be willing to utilize local business and startup company’s problems and present them to students for solutions and the development of an academic portfolio. Faculty should be eager to collaborate on research projects and work together to develop new technologies, products and innovative ideas campus-wide using all available resources. The College of Business is a great resource for the university and should be a tool students can use for financial direction. The College Of Engineering should become the catalyst on-campus for faculty/student innovation and become the vessel for innovation campus-wide. The goals of VSU should not only be to provide opportunities for students to acquire a position within a company, but to help develop a company through understanding of the business. VSU should also provide faculty and staff the capabilities to gain venture funding, develop intellectual property, form a business unit, and truly go out and create a business. VSU should develop a Research / Innovation center that offers mandatory courses and set of programs for all students to help bridge the gap between studies and practice, research and commercialization, and from dreams to reality. These programs should encourage students to understand the process of a product or service fundamentally from early discovery through commercialization. The objective is to help supportive faculty encourage entrepreneurs and promote corporate partnerships and startup companies in hopes that students can commercialize ideas as they reach later stages of studies. One strategy that can help develop this network should be an organization around the idea of entrepreneurship and innovation. An organization that helps students and faculty come together and achieve their common goals through practice. An organization that can help empower a Research / Innovation center can eventually uplift our institution as a whole to increase entrepreneurial spirits campus-wide from networking events, competitive events, speaker series events, projects, and workshops. In a sense, these activities can eventually create avenues for students to soar into heights that some say are unreachable. Let’s break down barriers and Build a Better World, one student at a time.  

Updated information, November 2021:

In September of 2016, the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business has established a VSU Center for Entrepreneurship as an education, research, and planning hub for budding entrepreneurs within not only the student body, but also the entirety of Central Virginia, including minorities and military veterans. This center also provides opportunities for innovation through bi-annual pitch competitions with a prize of $1000. To compound this, a 16 credit Minor in Entrepreneurship is also available for any undergraduate to pursue, along with a prospective certificate program. Additionally, in July of 2021, the VSU Center for Entrepreneurship received $453,000 from GO Virginia, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the creation of a Minority Small Business Leading Center to help early startup companies gain funding and assistance. This program is also targeted towards minority-led businesses.

==Bonfire Social Event==

Bonfires are great way to encourage students to socialize and get to know their peers. There is a great need on campus to see more of a family-like environment and relationship between students and staff. Through hosting a bonfire on campus, this social event will invite students and faculty to converse with one another, make new mentor-student relationships, and connect on a deeper level than a day-to-day interaction. I want students to have conversations where we feel comfortable discussing our differences, similarities, and gain a closer bond amongst each other.

I was convinced that this needs to happen because of my personal experiences on campus and things I have heard from my Spelman sisters.

Most of the Spelman campus has been eager to experience campus life firsthand and because of the pandemic that has not been possible. Events that would normally be available to everyone, were determined by a ticket draw. Upperclassmen are not on campus to help facilitate traditions, so it is disappointing and they are not serving who they should be serving.

So, (will you?) help me establish new traditions that all Spelman women can enjoy.

Overview:

It is important for campuses to promote student innovation and entrepreneurship, encourage faculty to foster innovative and entrepreneurial spirits, support commercialization of inventions, facilitate collaboration between the college and outside businesses, and engage in efforts regionally and local economic development efforts. These qualities on college campuses are imperative to developing skillsets that prepare students to be innovative and creative in a community of intellectuals. Spelman College is a campus community of African American women who engage in a community of intellectuals and make a choice change the world. Through an intensive liberal arts community, I believe that Spelman has significant potential to generate a community of interdisciplinary backgrounds that will support all the skillsets necessary for innovation and entrepreneurship. 

Spelman has a ways to go in terms of a good amount of resources that foster innovation and entrepreneurship. Spelman hosts speakers series and provides opportunities for students to network. However, more can be done to help Spelman women within the college curriculum to start and pursue a business idea.

Students are innately creative and have ideas and solutions for problems. This is especially true on college campuses. I am often surrounded by students who are able to identify problems on the campus community and can easily come up with creative solutions to make students’ lives more easy. Spelman has embraced the need for encouraging students to inherit a mindset focused on entrepreneurship and innovation by implementing the First Year Colloquialism which engages students that are just entering the Spelman community to channel those spirits using real life examples and real world problems to solve problems. One of the problems in which the First Year Colloquialism tackles is the Black Lives Matter Movement. Students are charged with finding a solution on how to create ideas and implement projects that tackles the issues around the Black Lives Matter Movement. In addition, students have realized the importance the entrepreneurship plays in this new economy. They have begun to utilize the innovation lab more heavily and are organizing a #FashionHack. The #FashionHack will be a hackathon organized to get students from all disciplines interested in creating designs using machinery from the innovation lab. The hackathon will be judged and winners’ designs will be sold in the Spelman College bookstore.

I want to echo that the innovation lab is a great place for student innovation and entrepreneurship. All students are welcome to use it for discussing ideas and bringing them to life. Innovation co-hosts and lab leaders strive to engage students in interdisciplinary collaborations to cultivate new and revolutionary ideas. The innovation lab also runs a number of clubs: the entrepreneurship club, design club, and Spelman XR club. The entrepreneurship club welcomes all students and exposes them to established entrepreneurs who counsel them on their ideas.

It is incredibly important to make sure that faculty are also encouraged to express their innovation and entrepreneurship skills. This is important because faculty will begin to have an influence on how students are perceiving these skills and get an idea on how to implement them for themselves. One way to encourage faculty and staff to engage in these skills is to get them to implement project-based curriculums for their courses and implement one big project at the end of the course where students would be able to present their projects at an expo held by the school. This will allow students to solve problems based on interdisciplinary courses and provide students with the opportunity to engage in pitching their product that would ultimately relate to their field of study while solving a real world problem.

Most of the faculty use innovative techniques to introduce students to real world examples of the skills they are trying to each and employ black celebrities to engage students. The push towards entrepreneurship comes from the art and career driven departments. Faculty often make suggestions about the creative things students can do in future professions or as a side hustle.

One problem on campus is that I think not enough students are aware of the opportunities through entrepreneurship. If students are not able to imagine themselves starting their own start-up, then they will not think of the resources to make their start-up come to life. I think more students need access to understanding the process of having a start-up come to life to understand the resources that are necessary to make it actually come to life. On campus, we should expose students to the iterative process of starting a business and to show them how to use their technology intellectual property purposes.

Collaboration with the Atlanta ecosystem will be crucial and significant in the mission of trying to promote a more entrepreneurial culture on campus. As the ecosystem grows larger, there is room for student and business collaboration to get students acquainted and acclimated with starting a business. The idea is that students will obtain the skills and knowledge that is necessary in beginning their own ventures. One of the commodities I would like to see implemented is students that will be matched with an organization in the Atlanta startup ecosystem and will utilize the innovation labs to think up ideas about how to contribute to the business’ business plan to attain more customers and be competitive in this market. Students will utilize the innovation lab to collaborate with these organizations to enhance their skillset and become more advance in the entrepreneurship world.

This year, we looked into Spelman’s Innovation Lab, the STEM Research Study, and internship programs as university-industry collaboration. Students can use the innovation lab and the entrepreneurship club has students pitch their ideas to companies. Internships put students in the workplace and can give them experience of the day-to-day.

Bowie State University is the oldest historically black university (HBCU) in Maryland. Bowie State University was established in Bowie, Maryland during the year 1865 after an outgrowth of a school opened in Baltimore, Maryland, by an organization dedicated to offering educational opportunities that the state failed to provide for its black citizens. From those humble beginnings, Bowie State has become a comprehensive university, offering 23 undergraduate majors, 20 master's degree programs, 16 specialty certificates and two doctoral programs in a broad range of disciplines. Bowie State University continues to build on its legacy of providing access to a high-quality education. It is home to the Bowie State Bulldogs who proudly represent their school colors of black and gold.

Myisha Roberson Moore earned her Bachelor's and Master's in Biology and Doctor of Philosophy in Material Science and Engineering at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. She has 12 years of experience working in education and research (particularly in STEM) positions. Myisha is a curious scientist with expertise in strategic planning, problem solving and project management within high-profile, academic organizations.

As a graduate student, Myisha expanded research on the measurement of wound healing and tested an originally developed protocol involving nanomedicine in vivo. To achieve this, she spearheaded the development of groundbreaking antimicrobial nanomaterials, and tested their efficacy in clinical trials. Her unique wound healing therapy significantly decreased wound healing time in the animal models. The manuscript of process was published in 2015 and is available in the Ford Motor Company Library.

Furthermore, Myisha engineered nanomaterials using a novel microwave synthesis technique, that treated bacterial and fungal infections without adverse side effects. Her study’s results showed her engineered nanoparticles reduced the toxicity of compared treatments, making it safer to use in application. This research was published in the NanoLIFE journal in 2014.

As an Innovation Fellow, Myisha has worked to cultivate collaborative relationships with multiple organizations and associations to help solve campus, and community issues. She assisted in strategic planning of a technology transfer office for the commercialization of academic research as well as the development of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship course at Tuskegee University.

Myisha was trained as a University Innovation Fellow in Fall 2014 and attended the Silicon Valley meetup in March 2014. In June 2014, she presented design thinking strategies and innovation and entrepreneurship course ideas at the APLU Student Success Summit in Atlanta, GA alongside other UIF fellows. She also shared information on the UIF program, design thinking strategies and course ideas Science and Technology Open House in Montgomery, AL, later that year.

Ultimately, Myisha’s career goal is to increase student interest and retention in STEM fields using innovation, creativity and design thinking to support the development of novel learning tools and technologies in science education. Her personal interests include volunteering with her sorority and mentoring young women. She also enjoys watching reality tv, travelling and spending time with her family.

Myisha Roberson Moore earned her Bachelor's and Master's in Biology and Doctor of Philosophy in Material Science and Engineering at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. She has 12 years of experience working in education and research (particularly in STEM) positions. Myisha is a curious scientist with expertise in strategic planning, problem solving and project management within high-profile, academic organizations.

As a graduate student, Myisha expanded research on the measurement of wound healing and tested an originally developed protocol involving nanomedicine in vivo. To achieve this, she spearheaded the development of groundbreaking antimicrobial nanomaterials, and tested their efficacy in clinical trials. Her unique wound healing therapy significantly decreased wound healing time in the animal models. The manuscript of process was published in 2015 and is available in the Ford Motor Company Library.

Furthermore, Myisha engineered nanomaterials using a novel microwave synthesis technique, that treated bacterial and fungal infections without adverse side effects. Her study’s results showed her engineered nanoparticles reduced the toxicity of compared treatments, making it safer to use in application. This research was published in the NanoLIFE journal in 2014.

As an Innovation Fellow, Myisha has worked to cultivate collaborative relationships with multiple organizations and associations to help solve campus, and community issues. She assisted in strategic planning of a technology transfer office for the commercialization of academic research as well as the development of an Innovation and Entrepreneurship course at Tuskegee University.

Myisha was trained as a University Innovation Fellow in Fall 2014 and attended the Silicon Valley meetup in March 2014. In June 2014, she presented design thinking strategies and innovation and entrepreneurship course ideas at the APLU Student Success Summit in Atlanta, GA alongside other UIF fellows.
