To educate, train and coach high level professionals, entrepreneurs and innovators in order to generate, transform, transfer and articulate knowledge to promote and boost the technological, economic and social development of Uruguay.&lt;br /&gt;

=Promoting student innovation and entrepreneurship=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At UTEC, there can be found many workshops focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as undergraduate courses that are focused on science and engineering, the teachers encourage their students to innovate and to have an entrepreneurial perspective when making the projects.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The main event of innovation and entrepreneurship is the Innovation Week, which takes place in the month of October and gathers companies from public and private areas joining forces alongside local high schools and their students, as well as other higher education institutions and universities, with the special collaboration of the Finnish university JAMK, working all together in order to discover new ways of innovation, bring a wide spectrum of careers together to make a project, instead of each career doing the task separately. And also, this projects will have a great impact in the community.&lt;br /&gt;

=International Relations Unit=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The International Relations Unit promotes and maintains links with foreign institutions and organizations that strengthen academic and research activity through networks of universities, research centers and international organizations, academic exchanges and joint programs.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Internationalization in its broadest sense and integrated to management, allows universities to be part of international trends in education and learning, as well as to provide all their students with the necessary resources to make a positive contribution to society.&lt;br /&gt;

=UTEC in the Territory=&lt;br /&gt;

The Regional Technological Institutes (ITRs, by its acronym in Spanish) are the manifestation of UTEC in the territory (the campus).They are located on different cities in the country, based on the regional needs for higher education in each city. They are the centers that manage the activities in the region; in order to create a dialogue with the environment, through a strong decentralized profesional path.&amp;amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When UTEC was first created its main focus was to decentralize centers of higher education in the country from the capital. At the time all uruguayan students could mostly do if they wanted to pursue a college career was to move to Montevideo, and study there. This drastically changed with the arrival of UTEC. Its first institution was built in the southwest part of the country, Fray Bentos. Since then on, all ITRs built have been following the same path and have been designed to fit the communities they were built around.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
After &amp;quot;Fray Bentos&amp;quot;, &amp;quot;Durazno&amp;quot; (ITR- Centro Sur) was created in 2017; and then Rivera's institution (ITR - Norte) was inaugurated.  Nowadays the creation of the new &amp;quot;Minas&amp;quot; center (ITR - East) is planned; UTEC is at continuing growth since its beginning. &lt;br /&gt;

==Biography==&lt;br /&gt;
Manuela is a first-year student of the Agroenvironmental Engineering career at UTEC (UY, Uruguay).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Since her childhood, she dabbled in her interest in writing and landscape description, and that tendency for searching for new reading material was later connected with her passion for surrounding herself with nature. The key for her, was to understand the environment (always with a scientific approach), to later describes its characteristics.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In primary school she developed her disposition to help others, above all to who need support in Biology and English classes. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In her secondary school we can highlight the existence of a  movement called “MAGIS”, which has as a motto “always more for the other”, and in a personal way the phrase is translated as “give the best version of yourself”. Manuela, as many professors described her, is always trying to give her best, either academically to personally. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As a child, she played football in her school team and previously she was part of a swimming team in a sporting club, and because of that past experiences, she sometimes describes herself (in a humorous manner), as a “frustrated sportsperson”. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Regarding her studies in art and music, Manuela studied flute for four years at a national public institution called at that time &amp;quot;Virgilio Scarabelli Alberti&amp;quot;. She also participated in the &amp;quot;Departmental Choir of Montevideo&amp;quot;, in the last years of school of music.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Nowadays she dreams of meeting her contemporary references, among which stand out: Byung-Chul Han, Malala Yousafzai, Ida Vitale, and Sylvia Earle. The latter was kind enough to answer an email in 2020 since Manuela sent her a question that the oceanographer classified as a &amp;quot;thoughtful question&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
“If we want to achieve our goal, then let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.” - Malala Yousafzai. As Malala said, Manuela also believes that the most powerful personal tool is our knowledge and the community's sense, the high unity with each other will develop humanity's progress in every aspect.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Finally, due to what was stated in the previous paragraph, she joined the UIF program with many objectives in mind, but especially her wish to learn how to communicate better with others and learn how to transmit ideas in a simple but precise way, to bring learning closer to those who are interested in the topics to be addressed from the course.&lt;br /&gt;

Since her childhood, she dabbled in her interest in writing and landscape description, and that tendency for searching for new reading material was later connected with her passion for surrounding herself with nature. The key for her, was to understand the environment (always with a scientific approach), to later describes its characteristics.&lt;br /&gt;

In primary school she developed her disposition to help others, above all to who need support in Biology and English classes. &lt;br /&gt;

In her secondary school we can highlight the existence of a  movement called “MAGIS, which has as a motto “always more for the other”, and in a personal way the phrase is translated as “give the best version of yourself”. Manuela, as many professors described her, is always trying to give her best, either academically to personally. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As a child, she played football in her school team and previously she was part of a swimming team in a sporting club, and because of that past experiences, she sometimes describes herself (in a humorous manner), as a “frustrated sportsperson”. &lt;br /&gt;

Regarding her studies in art and music, Manuela studied flute for four years at a national public institution called at that time &amp;quot;Virgilio Scarabelli Alberti&amp;quot;. I completely agree with the above comment. One of my friends from high school struggled with finding scholarships and resources in order to go to college. I think scholarships should be focussed on disadvantaged communities and no one should be denied opportunities because of their circumstances. There is a massive issue in the economic gap against our marginalized communities. However, because this negative spiral exists it also provides these communities less opportunities to educate and improve their livelihood. In being an individual who came from these communities and was lucky enough to have a good support system around me and being funded by scholarships, it has truly opened my eyes to the injustice and systemic oppression we face. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The honest truth is that I would not have had the courage to consider attending my university if I had not received several scholarships. Many youth in these neighborhoods are not even exposed to these opportunities, I had to scrounge to find these things for myself. I believe being able to provide youth with these opportunities is the not only beneficial morally, but also economically.&lt;br /&gt;

It is true that low income students don't receive as much attention as they should. If i didn't have the assistance I wouldn't be where I am right now. Taking advantage of this great opportunity, but it still a struggle to pay for school every now and then and I truly believe that creating one for low income that provides a fair amount of money to make getting their education easier would be so helpful. It would lessen the entering higher in debt every year and needing to work jobs and many hours so all of that energy can be indulged in having more time to study and even innovate. They would be able to unlock more potential they have hidden in them and not make them stress and and have a can't do it attitude.&lt;br /&gt;

Making education accessible to all is the need of the hour. There are many children unable to study due to their financial conditions. Many out there dreaming about being educated. This has led to many disadvantaged communities not being able to acquire education .Ironically , the only solution to combat this widened gap in our society is through education.  Thus, I would like to propose that education in elementary and middle school be made free of cost or atleast be provided with a fair amount of concession. And in the higher education I would suggest that the students would be given scholarships based on their interest and desire to study .Also lowering the high standards of qualification in the examinations conducted to provide scholarships has to be put into action.&lt;br /&gt;

I am from a small town in rural/remote Alaska. There are many problems in the community, especially since the pandemic. What there is no shortage of, though, is community support for our youth. We find that there are hundreds of scholarships, totaling over $1 million dollars.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
My opinion and what I see in this article as well, is that you need to find people who have lived though or understand what it is like to grow up in a disadvantaged community and have made it. In my community, people who are well off and middle class donate what they can to provide a better future because they know the investment will pay off for the community in the future.&lt;br /&gt;
