We have many different opportunities for students to intentionally engage in entrepreneurship and innovation on our campus, starting with the Entrepreneurship degree. Students can major in Entrepreneurship, which includes courses such as Entrepreneur Finance, Entrepreneur Marketing, and other ENT Special Topics Courses. Students may also choose to minor in Entrepreneurship, which includes courses such as Entrepreneurs Intro to Business, The Social Enterprise, or other Entrepreneurship related electives. Each of these courses are offered through Lipscomb’s Center for Entrepreneurship, which was founded in 2011 to provide students with more entrepreneurial opportunities on campus and in the Nashville community.

Each of these on-campus organizations are student led, and offer students from many different areas of study the opportunity to engage in I&E on Lipscomb’s Campus. Though they are student-led, many faculty & staff members are heavily involved in these organizations, as they help students connect with individuals outside of the Lipscomb Community. Other I&E opportunities are shared with students through various newsletters that are sent out to students on a weekly or monthly basis. For example, the Office of Student Life sends out information about the many opportunities that students can engage in, some being directly I&E related, others being specifically recreational. Each college within the University sends out a newsletter to all of their students, advertising different opportunities student have to engage on and off campus. The College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, and many other departments each have unique opportunities to allow students to participate in I&E related activities.

The Kittrell Pitch competition allows students from any area of study to pitch their business idea to a panel of judges, giving students the opportunity to win cash prizes to fund their entrepreneurial endeavors. 3 Day Startup also allows for learning and engagement for many students. This is a new addition to Lipscomb’s Center for Entrepreneurship, and is the next step being taken to grow and improve Lipscomb’s I&E ecosystem.

These courses, however, may also offer students engagement with international experiences, such as communicating with startups in other countries, or going to visit startups across the globe.

Though it is not a formal internship, Lipscomb’s service opportunities allow students to connect with industries they may not otherwise engage with. Because of Lipscomb’s reputation within the community, companies may have students on-site for a few hours, and end up connecting with students for a long-term opportunity.

Students and faculty can both engage in regional and local development efforts through service opportunities (see “Facilitating University-Industry Collaboration”). Many organizations- large & small, for-profit & non-profit, private & public- come to Lipscomb for help and guidance in many different areas. Our faculty includes professors who have previous experience in a diverse range of professions- Aerospace Engineer to former Disney Animator. Because of this, people all over  Nashville are looking to Lipscomb faculty, staff, and students as the city faces challenges that require a highly innovative and entrepreneurial mindset.

Matthew Stuart is a University Innovation Fellows Candidate and a sophomore accounting major at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Matthew is originally

from Memphis, TN, where he learned early on about the value of combining compassion with problem solving tools and techniques to create sustainable solutions to systemic societal issues. These experiences have led Matthew to be heavily involved in the Center for Business as Mission at Lipscomb, which seeks to integrate lean business principles and theology to bring about these kinds of solutions in underserved communities. One of Matthew’s core desires is to see people from all national, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds connected in work and rest as they lead bold and purposeful lives. Outside of school, Matthew primarily enjoys spending time with friends and family, whether that be over meals, games, or in church. He sees time with people as the highlight of his day, and he is always looking for ways to get to know the people around him better. This enjoyment has led Matthew to take a special interest in learning how to build a more connected ecosystem on campus socially and academically. UIF has been an incredible platform and resource for working towards an integrated Lipscomb, and he looks forward to being a part of his Leadership Circle’s efforts to bring greater unity to the campus.

We have many different opportunities for students to intentionally engage in entrepreneurship and innovation on our campus, starting with the Entrepreneurship degree. Students can major in Entrepreneurship, which includes courses such as Entrepreneur Finance, Entrepreneur Marketing, and other ENT Special Topics Courses. Students may also choose to minor in Entrepreneurship, which includes courses such as Entrepreneurs Intro to Business, The Social Enterprise, or other Entrepreneurship related electives. Each of these courses are offered through Lipscomb’s Center for Entrepreneurship, which was founded in 2011 to provide students with more entrepreneurial opportunities on campus and in the Nashville community.

Each of these on-campus organizations are student led, and offer students from many different areas of study the opportunity to engage in I&E on Lipscomb’s Campus. Though they are student-led, many faculty & staff members are heavily involved in these organizations, as they help students connect with individuals outside of the Lipscomb Community. Other I&E opportunities are shared with students through various newsletters that are sent out to students on a weekly or monthly basis. For example, the Office of Student Life sends out information about the many opportunities that students can engage in, some being directly I&E related, others being specifically recreational. Each college within the University sends out a newsletter to all of their students, advertising different opportunities student have to engage on and off campus. The College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, and many other departments each have unique opportunities to allow students to participate in I&E related activities.

Though they are student-led, many faculty & staff members are heavily involved in these organizations, as they help students connect with individuals outside of the Lipscomb Community. Other I&E opportunities are shared with students through various newsletters that are sent out to students on a weekly or monthly basis. For example, the Office of Student Life sends out information about the many opportunities that students can engage in, some being directly I&E related, others being specifically recreational. Each college within the University sends out a newsletter to all of their students, advertising different opportunities student have to engage on and off campus. The College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Education, and many other departments each have unique opportunities to allow students to participate in I&E related activities.

His focus studies are in Corporate Finance where it includes subsets of the financial industry such as corporate [[File:Joshhayslett.JPG|border|right|Joshhayslett.JPG]]finance, investment banking, and financial modeling. Although his school is in Nashville, he is a Memphis native, where he was very active in community development centering around economic empowerment. Josh originally went to East Tennessee State University, where Economics was his focus, but due to the excellent history in Finance Lipscomb had, he decided to transfer.

He has also completed internships that includes areas of corporate law, start-ups, and asset management. In his spare time, he offers assistance and guidance to students wanting know about the world of investing, entrepreneurship or the latest rising opportunities in business.

from Memphis, TN, where he learned early on about the value of combining compassion with problem solving tools and techniques to create sustainable solutions to systemic societal issues. These experiences have led Matthew to be heavily involved in the Center for Business as Mission at Lipscomb, which seeks to integrate lean business principles and theology to bring about these kinds of solutions in underserved communities. One of Matthew’s core desires is to see people from all national, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds connected in work and rest as they lead bold and purposeful lives. Outside of school, Matthew primarily enjoys spending time with friends and family, whether that be over meals, games, or in church. He sees time with people as the highlight of his day, and he is always looking for ways to get to know the people around him better. This enjoyment has led Matthew to take a special interest in learning how to build a more connected ecosystem on campus socially and academically. She is involved on campus in several areas- an on campus job in the College of Business, a Business as Mission (BAM) Fellow, a member of the Presidential Ambassadors Council, and a member of the Dean’s Student Leadership Council. Lydia was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska but decided to leave the Midwest for her college career. She was especially drawn to Lipscomb because of their Business as Mission program, along with the close-knit community on campus. Though she is 750 miles from home, she is still a proud Husker fan, and wears her red Nebraska shirt every Saturday during football season.

This 8 week business mentorship program allowed her to learn about developing-world entrepreneurship as she also gained international experience. When she returned to the United States, she started and co-taught an Entrepreneurship Accelerator course at the Nashville Hispanic Family Foundation (HFF). This was a 6 week course designed by Lydia and a fellow student, and was created to help Latino immigrants learn about running a small business in the United States.

She’s passionate about using business as a way to impact her community, and hopes to one day open a social enterprise or go back to Kenya & work with small businesses-hopefully both!

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; background-color: transparent; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Lydia spent 2 months in 2018 living in Malindi, Kenya working with 5 small businesses to assist them with growth & development. This 8 week business mentorship program allowed her to learn about developing-world entrepreneurship as she also gained international experience. When she returned to the United States, she started and co-taught an Entrepreneurship Accelerator course at the Nashville Hispanic Family Foundation (HFF). This was a 6 week course designed by Lydia and a fellow student, and was created to help Latino immigrants learn about running a small business in the United States. 

<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial; background-color: transparent; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-position: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">When she’s not working or studying in the College of Business, you can find her at a local coffee shop, babysitting, sitting somewhere with her journal, or eating at a new Nashville restaurant with her friends. Lydia loves coffee & donuts and is always ready for an adventure. She’s passionate about using business as a way to impact her community, and hopes to one day open a social enterprise or go back to Kenya & work with small businesses-hopefully both!

MHSTUART:

Matthew Stuart is a University Innovation Fellows Candidate and a sophomore accounting major at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. Matthew is originally from Memphis, TN, where he learned early on about the value of combining compassion with problem solving tools and techniques to create sustainable solutions to systemic societal issues. These experiences have led Matthew to be heavily involved in the Center for Business as Mission at Lipscomb, which seeks to integrate lean business principles and theology to bring about these kinds of solutions in underserved communities. One of Matthew’s core desires is to see people from all national, socio-economic, and religious backgrounds connected in work and rest as they lead bold and purposeful lives.

Outside of school, Matthew primarily enjoys spending time with friends and family, whether that be over meals, games, or in church. He sees time with people as the highlight of his day, and he is always looking for ways to get to know the people around him better. This enjoyment has led Matthew to take a special interest in learning how to build a more connected ecosystem on campus socially and academically. UIF has been an incredible platform and resource for working towards an integrated Lipscomb, and he looks forward to being a part of his Leadership Circle’s efforts to bring greater unity to the campus.
