The initial exposure of young students towards the entrepreneurial mindset and environment is not particularly well developed as compared to the other aspects in the Twente area.

This finding was discussed and reaffirmed by the other parties present during our first stakeholder meeting.

Based on this experience the discussion quickly zoomed in on the aspect of personal development that promotes a more experimental, hands-on, entrepreneurial and proactive mindset.

Essentially asking the question of how do we get students to…

  * think about why they are here!

  * develop a personal identity.

  * set their own personal goals.

  * select their assignments and work on these goals.

  * develop their own moral compass.

  * try something new more often.

  * stimulate their own curiosity.

…and develop these ideas early enough so they can pick courses in an intentional and goal oriented way.

The new education system introduced in 2013 the Twente Education Model. Already tried to address these aspects. However, due to the inherent inertia of tutors and tutees, these ideas still need more time to come full fruition. In that way, additional support to could support these concepts.

The team realized that while there are many facilities available for personal self-development, start-up funding and extracurricular content like the Honours Program many students don’t know about them and even worse do not care to know about them.

It seemed like an imperative focus for this UIF-Team to stimulate the personal development of young students so that the available resources are used more effectively.

Furthermore, it is necessary to have a positive and inclusive environment available on campus. The DesignLab as it stands today fulfills this role and will likely be a fitting and great place from which the UIF program should operate.

The aspects above can be summarized by 4 simple goals.

            1. Keep spreading the ideas and find mentors that can help with that.

            2. A need for self-development!

            3. Entrepreneurship needs to be valued by staff and students alike.

            4. The necessity of an inclusive environment for all the points above.

== Mid-term and long-term goals ==

The University Innovation fellows present in Twente needs to be established. (Mid 2017) While there are many students run organizations none of them work in this context. Therefore, it is very important that the presence of the UIF committee and students are consistent and well established across the various parties across campus.

The first project associated with this is to hold launch event(s) and brainstorm sessions with various parties, in order to get our name out there.

Subsequent to this initial goal the UIF-Twente team needs to become a well-trusted institution on campus. Essentially, requiring the development of a UIF-Twente brand. This aspect is very important to assure the future effectiveness of this project. It is very difficult to determine a fixed milestone for this project, however, within one and a half years (early 2018) UIF should be a well-established name.

== Subsequent steps to establish a students self-development as the focus of the UIF program
==

In the first brainstorm session, the necessity for support for early’s students self-development was established.

Establishing a space a center and sanctuary for self-development.

One approach towards stimulating self-development is offering students feedback and a safe place within which to receive this feedback. The DesignLab at this university could fulfill this function admirably. The goal is to establish this space connected to an easy and repetitive schedule with the ideas of self-driven learning as well as an ethical and moral understanding of once impact. No later than February 2017 should relate events start taking place in the DesignLab. This should allow students to get in touch with the program by the end of the academic year(July 2017).

Many resources such as the knowledge and skills of students are not considered. The university is rather seeking help for the realizations of inside projects from outside companies and is therefore not using the talent that is right in front of them.
The idea is to introduce all different organizations of the university and what this organization can provide in terms of resources and knowledge or skills. It is all about increasing the awareness of all members of the university about what different facilities and organizations the university has to offer.
By signing up for that student pool they agree to be approachable for university intern project that otherwise would have been given to companies. The basic idea is to use the talent of students and give them real world problems on which they can work. Students can make valuable work experiences and the university can save money by first asking students to look for a solution. Students will be paid for working on the project. In order to avoid the problem of unreliability of students fixed deadlines will be discussed and the university can decide at every step to outsource the project when they have the feeling that the students are not able to finish the project correctly or on time.
We would like to have discussion with the UT news and the board about possibly adding a paragraph on the board’s decisions to the end of the monthly student newsletter. We would then like to set up a page on a platform such as loomio, for us to reiterate what that paragraph states and allows students to provide their opinions and suggestions. This format of a pool could enable the board to obtain a more all-encompassing view of what the student body thinks.

== Introduction & Inspiration ==

When making a landscape canvas of the I&E climate on campus, the leadership circle in Dalhousie made several observations. One of the most important was the lack of a program or event that introduced students to entrepreneurial and innovative thinking. From engineering to the arts, they considered activities in which students get hands-on experience with I&E a great opportunity to introduce student to I&E and to inspire and empower students. To maximise impact, they set out and created an eight-series workshop on I&E of 2.5h each that was open to students from all disciplines. Based on their experience, this wiki provides a useful starting guide on how to design and lead a workshop series on I&E.

== Workshop Organization ==

Identifying your target audience is the first step towards organizing a workshop series. Workshops for students new to entrepreneurship and workshops catered to students with start-up experience will have different focuses. Workshops for beginners could focus more on design-thinking and prototyping. Workshops for more experienced students can focus on funding and creating a great team environment.

After identifying the demographics of your audience, work to outline your 8 workshop topics. Of course, these topics can be changed if needed. It is recommended that the UIF team have one-hour meeting each week to organize the workshop. One member should be the point person for one workshop. That can be the same person for every workshop, or the faciliator role can be rotated throughout the team. Ideally the point person would be the team member with the most experience with the workshop topic. If that is not possible, don't be afraid to reach out to faculty members.

Once you have completed a rough outline and come up with a brandname for the sessions, you are ready to start promoting. Meanwhile, it’s time to plan the workshops in more detail, so think of themes, activities, and a detailed schedule for each workshop. Inviting local business owners, or faculty members, to present at your workshop is a great way to engage the community. During your initial planning meetings decide who you will invite and what would like them to present about. As a courtesy you must give them as much time as possible. Also, plan back-up schedules, to avoid any last minute scrambles.

When planning the schedule of your workshops determine if time for networking would be beneficial for your audience.

For keeping motivation high and preventing drop-outs during the workshops, you can think about offering the participants a certification at the end of the workshops. Requirements for the certificate can be attendance at 6 out of 8 workshops or an end-deliverable during the final workshops.

== Introduction & Inspiration ==

== Workshop Organization ==

Lennart is a grad student in Technical Medicine at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. What he loves about the program is the focus on bringing innovation to healthcare, a field that has traditionally been slow in adopting new technologies. With internships at Medtronic and hospitals like the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, Lennart experienced the motivational power of a shared mission and the value of inspiring colleagues. He is able to quickly find his way in diverse settings by his motivated attitude and active engagement, which helped him set out new research directions for Medtronic's Integrated Health Solutions. Currently, Lennart is graduating on a research project in collaboration with the University of Twente, Rijnstate hospital Arnhem and the Institute for Biomedical Technology at Ghent University. By combining expertise from these institutes, he aims to improve endovascular treatment of occluded arteries through computational fluid dynamics modeling.

For the University of Twente, Lennart actively contributed to his educational program as teaching assistent in math, medical and physics courses. Invited by the professors, he led practical sessions, assisted in seminars and functioned as tutor in group projects. For the student surf association, he functioned as member of the board and several committees to enhance campus facilities. Starting from these experiences, he hopes to exchange ideas on meaningful education through the UIF program and learn from others on how to promote and stimulate entrepreneurship on campus.

Born and raised in Alkmaar (NL), healthcare tech captured Lennart's interest at a young age. Growing up, he also enjoyed spending time on the piano or out in the open when kitesurfing. In 2015, his affinity with the piano led him to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance. He believes that improvising and group sessions in music can enhance creative thinking. Lennart is interested in bringing technical and medical disciplines together, both on campus and in hospitals, to ultimately speed up innovation in healthcare.

== Introduction & Inspiration ==

== Workshop Organization ==

Identifying your target audience is the first step towards organizing a workshop series. Workshops for students new to entrepreneurship and workshops catered to students with start-up experience will have different focuses. Workshops for beginners could foucs more on design-thinking and prototyping. Workshops for more experienced students can focus on funding and creating a great team environment.

After identifying the demographics of your audience work to outline your 8 workshop topics. Of course, these topcs can be changed if needed. It is recommended that the UIF team have one-hour meeting each weak to organize the workshop. One member should be the point person for one workshop. That can be the same person for every workshop, or the faciliator role can be roated throughout the team. Ideally the point person would be the team member with the most experience with the workshop topic. If that is not possible, don't be afraid to reach out to faculty members.

When you completed a rough outline and came up with a brandname for the sessions, you are ready to start promoting. Meanwhile, it’s time to plan the workshops in more detail, so thinking of themes, activities and a detailed schedule per workshop.Inviting local business owners, or faculty members, to present at your workshop is a great way to engage the community. During your initial planning meetings decide who you will invite and what would like them to present about. As a courtesy you must give them as much time as possible. Also, plan back-up schedules, to avoid any last minute scrambles.

When planning the schedule of your workshops determine if time for networking would be beneficial for your audience.

== Logistics ==

To keep things in time in a workshop with a lot of activities and information is essential to practice. Only with the experience you will get better and better with this.

== Keep them motivated ==

Some people don't have the strength to get into unknown stuffs so YOU have to start the conversation. Also it is important to promote our values so everyone who takes part of the workshop is aware of them.

== Impact ==

For future workshops, it is imperative to improve the ones that were held, through evaluations and feedback.</span></span>

The workshops must not be only focused on design thinking and innovation, but focused on what the customers, the participants, want and need.

It’s important to get feedback from the participants. If possible, after every workshop. In doing so, you can improve the workshop for next session or for next workshop.

In every workshop, there is the fear of delivery. And it doesn’t matter if only 5 or 10 people go, the important is to keep pushing and keep doing the workshop.

There has been a great interest in the doing the workshop next year. Although, and it is an issue that is being currently working on, the time of the workshop, because the aim is to fit everybody schedule.

== Tuesday Take-Offs - Example of an I&E workshop ==

From Sep to Nov 2016, the 2016 Spring UIF fellows from Dalhousie organized the Tuesday Take-Offs, a free series of I&E workshops open to all students interested. With the primary goal of getting students in touch with I&E thinking, the fellows designed a brand and workshop outline, check it out!
== Introduction & Inspiration ==

== Workshop Organization ==

== Logistics ==
== Introduction & Inspiration ==

== Workshop Organization ==

== Logistics ==

Based on their experience, this wiki provides a useful starting guide to design and lead a workshop series on I&E.

== Introduction ==

Based on their experience, this wiki provides a useful guide to design and give one or more workshops on I&E.
== Workshop Organization ==

Inviting local business owners, or faculty members, to present at your workshop is a great way to engage the community.During your initial planning meetings decide who you will invite and what would like them to present about. As a courtesy you must give them as much time as possible. Also, plan back-up schedules, to avoid any last minute scrambles.

When planning the schedule of your workshops determine if time for networking would be beneficial for your audience.

== Logistics ==
Only with the experience you will get better and better with this.
