Strategy 1: Create an Innovation Week on Campus (4/11-4/15) (Project Lead: Team Project)

Description: Our school has decided to create an interactive week that includes all university students. These students will be equipped with education, acess to influential community entreprenuers, networking nights and innovation centered games and activities. Through this we will be able to inform students on the importance of innovation and how we are trying to show how anyone can innovate and create a conducive enviornment to advnacement in the innovation and entreprenuerial facets.

Tactics:

- Hold an entreprenuerial techniques and meet and greet night catering to all majors spanning from business to engineering.

- Industry inside talk from entreprenuers and innovators in Colorado Springs

- Entreprenuerial Education (Lean startup, Business Model Generation, Law, Scaling Product Development)

- Elevator Pitch Night

- Innovation Festival

- Create strategic partnership

- Marketing Club, ENTP Club

- Bridge gap between community business and university

Stratgey 2- Deconstructing I&E Silos (Project Lead: Javier Rose)

Tactics:

- Streamline the different groups on campus that can elimnate overlap between club objective

Various groups on our campus are trying to achieve the same goal. Essentially creating their own silos which makes every club on campus more competitive. The competition between colleges on our campus to try and be the most innovative actually is a self defeating purpose. We are trying to get rid of these redundant objectives and to show how competition actually impedes innovation.

- Hold monthly stakeholder meetings that keep each club on the same page as we move the university forward.

Holding these stakholder meetings monthly will ensure that every influential person on our campus is on the same page as us fellows. Communication is key in order to move forward and acheive our goals. The main goal of this stakeholder meeting is to allign each individual's objectives to work as a collective entity rather than seperated.

Strategy 3- Eliminate Loss of momentum for start-ups and entrepreneurs (Project Lead: Preston Hare)

Tactics:

-Create a website that showcases each individual innovative activity in Colorado Springs

          Many starting entrepreneurs quit due to being overwhelmed by what to do next. Our vision is to have a website that shows exactly what is available in the springs and what next steps to take. We will map the connections that small business have across our city including to venture capitalists and angel investors. 

-Create a list of all startups and small businesses on the website 

          This list is designed to give access to the next step for learning entrepreneurs. Often times when students have complete one part of their startup and don’t know where they need to go to continue their momentum. We want to provide a "road map" of entrepreneurial and Innovation resources for budding start-ups and entrepreneurs.

- This site will show the entrepreneurship network within the springs that usually takes an experienced individual to see.

Experienced entrepreneurs usually have a very in-depth relationship with I&E community. We want to give this advantage to every level of entrepreneur. We hope that this will also help prevent up and coming start-ups from stalling out. With this information in had, students will know where the community resources are and how to leverage them for their company.

 

Strategy 4- Vetting preexisting networks and making the connection (Project Lead: Kyle Harmande)

Tactics:

-Creating a list of Entrepreneurial, Innovative and startup focused organizations on the UCCS campus and in Colorado

          By identifying and creating a list of the organizations that are focused on promoting I&E as well as startups we will be able create a plan for making the connection. Colorado is a ho spot for entrepreneurs or innovators. We have many organizations in Colorado Springs, Denver and Boulder that are focused on promoting innovation.

-Identifying the need for young professionals 

          We will find out what young professionals are looking for when trying to get involved. If we can identify the need we will be able to solve the problem of not being able to access the innovation network. 

-Establishing a relationship with the networks and promoting them through our sources 

          We plan to allow the I&E network to be able to be accessed much easier. By collecting these recourses and networks we can highlight their benefits and give them a title as to what category they belong to. We will create this on our media network platform, a centralized place for information. This will allow the pressure of I&E to become much more efficient. 

Strategy 5- Reaching Non-Traditional Students(Project Lead: Courtnie Kuecker)

UCCS is a non-traditional campus, we are made up primarily of commuter students, we have a strong base of military and veterans, many of our students are returning students, and of course with all of these demographics come the students who are parents. These students are unique because they are not looking to “hang out” around campus or get involved with traditional students who do not share their interests and perspectives. Some of our previous strategies will be able to cater to non-traditional students, but there are some specific tactics we can implement to reach these students.

Tactics:

-As part of innovation week hold a night for non-traditional students, that welcomes children and provides food

- Post information about campus innovation and entrepreneurship activities in newsletters

- Random innovation “happenings” throughout campus in between classes

-Innovation fair, an event that is aimed at children where students of all ages can come learn about and practice innovation

-Currently active or veteran military student night, casual atmosphere where students can practice and learn about innovation

Kyle is dedicated to fostering economic development in the United States through entrepreneurship and innovation. Among his achievements, Kyle is a board member for Peak Startup, Program Director for Startup Summer in Colorado Springs, and the co-founder of three companies local to Colorado Springs. Kyle uses his connections with the community to create a bridge for young professionals to connect with and learn from the local entrepreneurial community.

 

Kyle believes in giving before you get. He built an internship program in Colorado Springs that took interns from all over US and give them paid internships with local start up companies. Because of his strong passion with introducing university students with local startup companies and influential professionals surrounding our communities Kyle is working on creating a mentorship program that provides a network for driven students.

 

Kyle looks to make an international impact as well. He wants to teach innovation around the world and has done so at Hanoi University of Science and technology in Vietnam.
