Bio
Hi! I'm glad you're here.

My name is Jake Alihan Kapusansky, and I have been described by my teammates as a problem solver and leader who seeks to bring grand visions and change to life. Regarding my professional experience, I currently work at Paycom Silicon Valley, developing new business throughout Northern California as an Account Executive within the HRIS (Human Resource Information System) and Payroll industry.

In 2024, I graduated from Central Michigan University with my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, simultaneously being pinned as a University Innovation Fellow throughout my junior year of undergraduate studies.

Throughout my time at Uni, I completed 3 sales-based internships (my Business Admin. degree centered on Marketing with a Concentration in Professional Sales); one at State Farm, in which I became THE Jake from State Farm; one at Dell Technologies, in which I worked as a Services Sales Intern (hybrid) in Austin/ Round Rock, TX; and one at the Paycom Indianapolis Sales Office in Monument Circle (a.k.a. the heart of Indy or a 5 min. drive to Lucas Oil Stadium).

I loved every single one of these experiences, and I see the profession of sales as a catalyst for learning, listening, building for connectivity and conversation, while also leaning into rejection and resilience. In one word, I'm looking to create intrinsic GRIT for whatever profession I end up moving into in my 30's and beyond.

My mission is to transform the way in which underrepresented populations are able to capitalize on economic opportunities within inequitable systems. For context, I began my life in an orphanage in Yalutorovsk, RUS (I stand w. Ukraine), and came to the United States as an Adoptee when I was a baby. This personal history has led me to combine business and social work within my current and future domains of expertise based on lived experience. As I grew up, I struggled to tell my story, and in working through this challenging process, I became a high energy communicator who has now made a profession out of telling and listening to stories.

To align with this mission, in 2020, I co-founded the Organization of Asian Leaders (out of the Asian hate that my community was experiencing at an unprecedented scale across the U.S.), which aims to develop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that support the Asian community at Central Michigan. As we developed the organization, we learned that it wasn't stopping hate that we could control or influence. What we could influence was COMMUNITY, and in doing so, we could build strategic alliances with the other underrepresented communities within our campus's ecosystem while championing their causes in tandem with ours. This rapidly transformed the landscape of how students saw themselves and their organizations' ability to create self-representation while navigating the higher education environment. We fostered change through fundraising, carving out budgets for ourselves, speaking publicly/ protesting for our causes, and so much more.

My vision has always been to work myself out of organizations to make room for new leaders to emerge. I always say, praise in public, coach in confidence. If we can do these two things, we can bring the next generation of leaders to replace us while operating autonomously through our training and principles that we leave behind. Then these emerging change agents can become better than we ever were.

When I am not working (which I probably do too much of), I spend my time with my family and friends, eating, laughing, and having deep conversations about life. I love to watch movies, travel (just backpacked Europe with the money I made from starting my consulting company in college), read (fiction before bed and non-fiction when I wake up), write, and go for runs at a very very slow pace. This year, I completed my first ever half-marathon, and I plan to do a lot of backpacking and camping in NorCal over the next few years.

In one word, I'm looking to create intrinsic GRIT for whatever profession I end up moving into in my 30's and beyond (I'm currently 21).

Strategy #1: Developing a Culture of Creativity
Tactic #1: Creativity Conference
Description Overview: The creativity conference is a 1.5-2 day event that students will come to collaborate and develop their creative approach to problem-solving. As a physical location is feasible, this conference can also be held virtually and can be possible for students all across the world.

Team Leader:

* Leslee Weible

Some solutions might be that there could be coverage on different institutional social media and tabling on campus. Along with this, there was an issue with the way that the event was conveyed. There has to be enough information to entice the students to participate but also give them information that would let them know what this new event is really about and explain what it means in more than a couple vague sentences.

The creativity conference will be built off of the momentum of the series of consecutive creative jams that are hosted and implemented throughout the university.

Strategy #2: Creating a Centralized Digital Resource Center
Tactic #1: Social Media Account Content Delivery
Description: The focus on the creation of an interactive resource center located within the cmich.edu website is the end goal for this strategy. To begin, we must start somewhere past various agile sprint cycles that must be developed to implement the website transformation... this is why, as we are meeting together with teams to edit cmich.edu, we will start with social media.

To begin with general resources, our base-case account will be built out of Instagram.

Team Leader:

* Jake Kapusansky

With implementation of resources, our strategy is to develop the content in 3 stages: people, places, niches.

# People first. Our first posts and stories will be featuring people, specifically agents of change on campus that other individuals can reach out to for resources and help.
# Places next. To understand all of the physical locations between CMU's various contexts, we will implement each internal resource inside of our various buildings
# The niche resources to include will be imperative as the collective student body begins to read between the lines for resource sharing and collaboration. (Ie., Adobe Creative Suite, etc.)

Tactic #2: Geographic Information System Implementation between University Website and Communications
Geographic Information System

we have included our prototype for what the website resource would look like. Rather than approaching the typical CMU map from a drivers lens, we need to connect people to people.

This is our prototype from social media account with the intention of being able to share information right away. Lastly, we will focus on scaling the idea from social to the website by collecting CMU resources over the next semester and working to collaborate with the web design team.
<br />

Strategy #3: Collaborate with Student-Led Initiatives to Implement Design Thinking Methodologies
Tactic #1: Creative Jam/ Design Thinking Pop-Up(s)
Description: The Creative Jam is designed for students having a hard time with academic burn out. When you think of the last time you were unapologetically creative, I personally think of when I was a kid. This brought up the idea of having a creative jam tabling event.

Team Leader: Rebecca Ridenour

Students will be able to come up on their own terms and experience childhood creativity like a sensory lab, group madlibs, and reflection activities. An issue that was experienced through trying to market this idea was that flyers do not attract students to events and students feel like they need a free item for coming to events. There was also another issue with the lack of information on my flier and what the goals were of the event.

The Creative Jam would be a great idea to get the interest of creativity embedded into students and make it, "if you participate you get entered to win a giftcard,” so the barriers to entry are as minimal as possible. The Creative Jam, based on input from our stakeholders has been pivoted to be a series of built up events, or "pop-ups" that will be very lean and easy to build over time.
Campus Overview
With over 200 undergraduate majors, over 50 graduate and doctoral degrees, and a multitude of certifications to pursue, Central Michigan University offers all its students the variety to explore their passions and find the programs that are best suited for their needs.

Central Michigan University offers a variety of support systems to their students to help them create and maintain a healthy environment to thrive in during their time in Mount Pleasant and beyond. The university provides many mental health resources such as CMU Cares, the counseling center that is free for students, and SAPA which is a student run organization that supports students going through health and safety issues. CMU also ensures to have financial support for all of its students through our student financial aid as well as serving students through the student pantry where you do not have to enclose your financial background to receive food from the university.

Promoting student innovation and entrepreneurship
[[File:Central Michigan University.jpg|thumb|]]
Central Michigan’s entrepreneurship and innovation team would not be anything without its students that help shape the college. At Central, students are given many opportunities to be able to get into their own creative flow. An example of promoting student innovation and entrepreneurship is the CMU sales challenge which provides students an excellent way to showcase their abilities in marketing that they have been taught all year. The CMU Sales Challenge brings in what students have been practicing in the classroom, and brings forth their ideas to professionals that may be recruiting. This is also a great way for students to win scholarship money.

Another way for students to display their new talents is at the first inaugural CMU Hackathon, which was a collaboration between colleges over a 24 hour period. The event started with icebreakers and team building to help to create teams to tackle multiple different challenges. Throughout the time allotted for problem solving, students are able to remain within the building whether it be for working, eating, sleeping on provided cots, and brainstorming within their teams. Judges are brought in to judge the final exhibition to award students for their work and innovative ideas for these projects.

The Adobe Creative Jam was an event on campus to promote a new resource that is available to all students and staff. Creative and accessible technology was the focus of this event with a speaker from Adobe talking about a video editing app that was built to allow easy editing for anyone. Along with this, the Adobe Creative Lounge (located in the CMU Library) was introduced, where there are spaces to meet collaboratively and rent space like the sound booth. This space gives anyone that uses it access to professional equipment and help when using software like the Adobe Creative Cloud (available for all students and faculty).

Encouraging faculty innovation and entrepreneurship
The innovation and entrepreneurial mindset does not end at the students, faculty are encouraged to pursue their own ventures as well. The Office of Research and Graduate Studies is a resource that can provide support in the way of learning, funding, and exhibition. Through this office, grants are available to support not only research but creative endeavors as well, helping to foster an environment of innovation. Along with this, there are spaces that are available to present ventures that faculty have spearheaded. One of these is the Baber Room within the library that is used as an exhibition space, giving access to creative endeavors created by all disciplines. This space not only allows for faculty to promote their work but also to reach students that might have an interest in furthering their academics through possible mentors.

Groups within CMU are beginning to pop up as well bring together different colleges in the hopes of collaboration and innovation. One group that is prevalent in innovation and entrepreneurship focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship and the maker ecosystem within CMU as a university, stressing the need to work between colleges to allow for better access to resources. These groups allow for the conversations to start about how to create environments that will foster connection and creativity, two key items when developing ideas and working towards better design thinking principles.
There are multiple resources available to help people with their technology transfer function such as:

Technology is constantly being iterated on within Central's campus. Within the IDEA den, a plethora of resources, including 3D printers, access to graphics and content software, training, and people to build confidence with all of these innovative tools is a constant.

At the Adobe Creative Lounge, located at the University Library, students are able to create media while accessing professionals to support in their creative endeavors.

The Office of Research and Graduate Studies works in tandem with CMU RC, and develops research technology and creative endeavors. Grant searching, providing insights into exhibition spaces, and promoting a culture of innovation are all high level assets that the Office provides to transform innovation throughout the university.
At CMU, developing meaningful relationships is the foundation on which collaboration across industries is innovated. Internships, travel opportunities and events, both virtual and in-person with companies such as SAP, Ford, and Isabella Bank are all being iterated on to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and intrapreneurship within industry environments.

The Isabella Bank Institute for Entrepreneurship sponsors the IDEA Den, a center for student-led Innovation that focuses on incubating start-up ideation and growing new ventures. Additionally within the College of Business, the SAP Next-Gen Lab is constantly developing ERPsimulation events, workshops, and speaker series’ to engage students with innovation in information systems. This last year, over 50 students traveled to Chicago to create a relationship with SAP leadership.

Additionally, continuous development of internships and industry collaboration is competitive. Within CMU’s entrepreneurship workshops and bootcamps, over 20 entrepreneurs from around the nation fly and drive in to mentor students on new ventures and startups.

Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts
[[File:CMU Research Corporation.jpg|left|thumb|]]
Development on a local and regional scale is also important in a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation. Central Michigan engages in this effort by guiding people towards the resources that are available in the area and on campus. The CMU Research Cooperation (CMU RC) is a space that allows for co-working in four different cities. These spaces give all different levels of business networking and collaboration opportunities, as well as support from staff that helps entrepreneurs tackle their issues and strive for success. Along with this, the CMU RC gives people from start ups, established companies, the university and more the opportunity to share resources and innovate.

Another fantastic way to engage with economic development efforts is the Michigan Small Business Development Center, which is located within the Mid-Michigan College campus that is less than 5 miles from CMU’s campus. This center provides resources to small businesses to help them get on their feet, grow as a business, or develop more skills through training.

The Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce is a group that holds events and supports small businesses.

Actively supporting the university technology transfer function

Facilitating university-industry collaboration

Summary
Hello all,

My name is Jake Alihan Kapusansky and I am an agent of change. I spend my time cultivating relationships and developing science surrounding justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and I hope to work hard with each now of you to create authentic, innovative experiences for people across the world.

This past year at my university, I co-founded the Organization of Asian Leaders with my peers and collaborators, and what I found was a family and a community that I hold very close to my heart.

With this initiative, we lead Asian Pacific American Heritage Month across our campus, and as the President of my team, I lead and managed the vision of the 10+ events that we hosted on our campus.

This summer, I had the opportunity to work at Dell Technologies as a Services Sales Intern. Over the 12 weeks that I worked in our services organization, I was able to work with incredible leaders and professionals that pushed me to challenge myself, every single day.

While I delivered on my weekly projects specified to sales, I also took my subject matter expertise from justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and built a process that is currently being implemented into our employee resource group intern '23 cohort strategy. The project is based on an Agile framework that was refined over time with my two leadership mentors, Laddie Suk, Global Digital Transformation and Industry Solutions Lead and Ro O'Brien Principle Program Manager, Certified Scrum Master. I am proud of what I created, and could not have done this work without the council of an incredible team of mentors and advisors.

To get personal, in my free time, I love talking with my best friends and family about philosophy, culture, and life. Most of the time, these conversations are had over good food.

As one of my core philosophies is to seek discomfort, inspired by Yes Theory. As a result of constantly pursuing discomfort, I have created space and resources for myself to travel with people that I love dearly. This year, I worked and explored in Austin, TX; Anchorage, AK, Minneapolis, MN; Toledo, OH; Chicago, IL; and most importantly, embarked on a yearly road trip that I take with my Grandpa, Pat Kapusansky from Florida to Michigan. We drive for a few days, stopping, talking, and listening to each other's stories.

For the future, I am currently working with my teams to travel more. My next grand adventures will be focused internationally.

Thank you for your time- I cannot wait to meet and collaborate with you all!

Kapus1ja: /* Collaboration Towards Innovation on Campus */ new section

As an avid listener to TEDTalks podcasts, I am amazed that a student-led initiative brought a TEDx event to the university setting. Spoken word is very powerful, and to add to the author's point there is benefit to having shorter talks that leave the audience contemplating the mental stimulation they experienced instead of dosing off during a longer deliberation. I would be interested to see how the format of a TEDx Talk on campus would change amidst a global pandemic.

Very Interesting Read
When I read this, I imagined what it would be like for our campus to host a TEDx talk and how that would look. This is such a fantastic way to bring people out of the community to talk about ideas worth spreading.

Inspiring and Encouraging
Really enjoyable and inspiring topic to read. Personally, after reading this text it showed me not to scared to start new events .

Interesting and Exciting
I always wondered how different colleges were able to host TEDx talks on their campus, my school hosted one last year. I think this is a great way to hear really interesting stories from people on campus and give people a chance to discuss new ideas and perfect their public speaking.

TEDx in the time of COVID-19
I found this topic very interesting and exciting! The idea of bringing TEDx to a college campus through student effort is very impressive. The topic made me look up whether my school had a TEDx and made me start thinking about how TEDx could occur in a virtual setting and how it could help bring people together. Definitely made me think, which I really appreciate!

Inspiring meeting at our uni?
As a big fan of TED talks myself I love to hear about so many inspirational ideas. So I thought how special it would be to organize such a TEDx event on our campus and hear about ideas from people from our university. Additionally it would be fun to organize and you would meet many students, faculty members,... with inspiring ideas. Good to know is that it took about 3/4 year to organize and that it might take time and frustration until you get the TEDx event license.

Catching and enlightening
I really didn't know one is able to organise TEDx talks themselves. Thanks for the insight and bringing the attention this. It is a really awesome idea to plan our own one, even if it takes so long! This could also be ONE way to honour outstanding achievements at university.

Informational and Interesting
This is a great read and a fantastic guide for people wanting to host a TEDx event. The steps were precise and straightforward as to how to make the event possible and interesting for everyone involved in the process.

Came to know the unknown
I admire TEDx a lot and used to think how nicely people share their life journey over there but came to know the unknown story of how people approach to speak in the TEDx dice. And came to know how people get trained to speak confidently in the TEDX.
I felt great to read this topic on TEDx. So I too want to see myself as a story teller in TEDx and will try to set it in my school.

Motivating and learning
I recently came to know about TEDx talks. These are pretty amazing and inspiring knowing the back stories of successful people. We can learn a lot from their life stories. I actually think it is good for students to know the inspiring stories from these inspiring people from TEDx talks.

Super Cool!
Last semester, I saw that my school had a tedX event, but I wasn't able to go. I was curious about how they were able to do that, and this article definitely gave some insight on that. It's super cool to see students creating events that they're passionate about!

It would be great to organize a TEDx event
Organizing a TEDx event at my own institution is another dream of mine. The fact that one of us can plan such an event is incredibly inspiring. TEDx conferences are my favorite because the guests are always very motivational.

Collaboration Towards Innovation on Campus
I have found a collective group of individuals that are looking to bring a Ted Talk to our campus, and I have started to share this information as a result of their own initiatives.

How can we create a centralized support system from UIF to other Change Agents across our campus to implement and generate movement rather than being bogged down in the bureaucracy of higher education? This has been a question I have been asking for the past two years, and is a question that I am still attempting to figure out.

Bio
Hey! I'm glad you're here.

My name is Jake Alihan Kapusansky, and I pride myself on being a visionary leader and professional speaker. I currently serve on various justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion advisory boards including the Presidential Student Advisory Network and the College of Business DEI Committee through my start-up, Kap and Company: www.changewithkapandco.com.

This summer, I worked as a Services Sales Intern at Dell Technologies, and over a 12-week period of rigorous project development and presentation(s), I learned the value of having someone believe in you.

At Dell, any idea I had, thought through, and worked to develop was supported and championed. In congruence with my Services Sales training, I gained the confidence to create a holistic business process that will be implemented into the summer '23 cohort based on culture, diversity, and inclusion principles.

My personal mission is to create and maintain multiple streams of problem-solving ideas, to have a lasting proactive impact on long-term actionable change.

To align with this mission, in 2020, I co-founded the Organization of Asian Leaders, which aims to develop diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that support the Asian community in Mt. Pleasant. As a champion of diversity, I continue to develop science through my start-up, Kap and Company while I mentor students to develop their personal & professional brands as a Resident Assistant and advisor to my communities.

While I currently reside in Mt. Pleasant, MI, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with a Professional Sales Concentration with a minor in Information Systems at Central Michigan University.

When I am not working, I spend my time with my family and friends, eating, laughing, and having conversations about life. I love to watch movies, read, write, and go for runs at a very slow pace.

Summary
Hello all,

My name is Jake Alihan Kapusansky and I am an agent of change. I spend my time cultivating relationships and developing science surrounding justice, diversity, and inclusion, and I hope to work hard with each now of you to create authentic, innovative experiences for people across the world.
