His intended major is Finance with minors in Political Science and Leadership Studies. Josh will graduate in May of 2019 and is originally from Media, Pennsylvania which is located just outside of Philadelphia.

 At Elon, Josh is a part of the Leadership Fellows - a program that works to develop students' leadership skills to impact themselves, their community, and the world around them. In addition, he works as a technology consultant with Emerging Leaders in Technology at Elon and serves as a University Ambassador for the non-partisan National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the alto saxophone and golf.

 From a young age, Josh possessed an interest with entrepreneurship as he ran a small landscaping operation in his neighborhood. Since then, he has interned with Junior Achievement at SAP where he helped start two student-run ventures and has more recently interned with Quantum Strategies in West Chester, PA to further develop his knowledge of investment management.

Nick Smith is a Univeristy Innovation Fellow Candidate and an undergraduate studying Finance, Entrepreneurship, and Computer Science at Elon [[File:Nick Smith.jpeg|thumb]]University in North Carolina. He is originally from Virgina Beach and currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina. Nick's love for Innovation and Entrepreneurship stems fom learning about entrepreneurship from his father, who ran a business with his mother all from the comforts of their home. He took interest in the UIF program at Elon after meeting other fellows and learning of their impact and accomplishments.

At Elon, Nick serves as a student mentor for Campus Outreach and the SGA Representative to the Elon Athletics Committee. In these two roles, he has been abe to gauge several aspects of Elon's campus, from academics to athletics to the social climate. He strives daily to improve all aspects of life at Elon, and Nick firmly believes he can contribute as an entrepreneur, innovator, and creator. Nick is not only passionate about changing Elon through innovation and entrepreneurship, but it is his life goal to make a profound and lasting impact on the world through his work. A cause that he especially cares about is helping children, whether it be volunteering at the local Boys and Girls Club, at an orphanage, or participating in programs that help children with disabilities. 

Nick is the only boy in his family with four sisters, and he hopes to have a large family as well one day. In his free time, Nick enjoys a round of golf with his father, playing the piano, reading a good book, or enjoying an Italian meal.

I am a junior at Elon University, pursuing a double major in marketing and economics. I am passionate about making impacts[[File:Jamesheadshot.jpg|thumb]] on my campus in various ways. I am focused on maximizing efficiency in various operations at the school. For example, my most passionate project is a student-to-student and student-to-faculty connection and messaging app. This would be a direct line to collaboration and a way of recieving real-time feedback from faculty members at Elon. I am in a band on campus, which allows me to make money at school doing what I love. I play the bass guitar, and have played bass for nearly 9 years. Along with bass, I also play 5 other instruments - drums, piano, guitar, ukulele, and harmonica. I joined the Innovation Fellows so I could connect with other students and resources to become the change-agent on campus that I have always wanted to be. I am passionate about improving the world and collaborating with innovative and academically-driven individuals.

*Advertise and connect with all involved Elon parties to create large event with many supporters. 
*Evaluate what could be improved from the event.
*Present proof of concept to school and start to market in Alumni circles.

Purpose: 

Fortunately, Elon has a lot of programs and organizations that encourages students to explore I&E; however, many of these have either died out within the past couple years, have a lack of leadership or have needed a good push in the right direction. As UIF members we seek to build these programs and organizations back up.

Strategies:

*Identify organizations at Elon that work on I&E. 
*Evaluate their current state and future sustainability.
*Help them build stronger leadership teams by involving ourselves in their programs to spur progress and connect different groups. 
*Connect these different organizations with one another to build their recognition on campus and encourage collaboration without competition.
*Connect these organizations with different resources inside and outside of the school that might be helpful for them. Create a group of presidents and UIF leaders that meets once a semester to discuss the current state of I&E.

= Priority #4: Create and Market A University Wide Hackathon =

Purpose:

Get more students interested in STEM and the opportunities STEM has in terms of transforming the world. To have students and faculty across disciplines interact with eachother and come to a unique idea together.

Strategies:

*Contact the Department Chair of the Computing Sciences Department.
*Talk to and interact with upper level majors in Computer Science.
*Use outlets of the the Innovation House, STEM Living Learning Community, Maker Hub, and Carpenter Lab to promote the event. 
*Construct publicity & advertising tactics for event.
*Mass publicize event to student body.
*Host event while also publicizing Elon’s University Innovation Fellows to student body.
*Send thank you cards to speakers to hopefully gain a connection with them and gain support.
*Try and get 100+ student and faculty to come to one of the events.

Purpose:

With the establishment of the Maker Hub in Fall 2015, Elon took the first step towards establishing a dedicated I&E makerspace. However, students still need a space that is effectively staffed, well and reliably equipped, and where they feel comfortable to brainstorm and prototype their ideas.

Strategies:

*Identify what aspects of the Maker Hub are most in need of improvement. 
*Work on training every student staff member on the full arsenal of tools and equipment availble in order to streamline students' making process.
*Improve equipment uptime; especially the 3D printers. 
*Advertise the Maker Hub by integrating the space with traditional class curriculums.
*Connect the space with other incubators in the area.

= Priority #6: Elon Innovators Network' =

Purpose:

One way to encourage others to take their ideas and dreams to the next level is to show them that it has and is being done! This project would seek to shine a light on Elon’s current and past entrepreneurs.

Fortunately, Elon has a lot of programs and organizations that encourages students to explore I&E; however, many of these have either died out within the past couple years, have a lack of leadership or have needed a good push in the right direction. As UIF members we seek to build these programs and organizations back up.

Strategies:

*Identify organizations at Elon that work on I&E. 
*Evaluate their current state and future sustainability.
*Help them build stronger leadership teams by involving ourselves in their programs to spur progress and connect different groups. 
*Connect these different organizations with one another to build their recognition on campus and encourage collaboration without competition.
*Connect these organizations with different resources inside and outside of the school that might be helpful for them. Create a group of presidents and UIF leaders that meets once a semester to discuss the current state of I&E.

Purpose:

Get more students interested in STEM and the opportunities STEM has in terms of transforming the world. To have students and faculty across disciplines interact with eachother and come to a unique idea together.

*Talk to and interact with upper level majors in Computer Science.
*Use outlets of the the Innovation House, STEM Living Learning Community, Maker Hub, and Carpenter Lab to promote the event. 
*Construct publicity & advertising tactics for event.
*Mass publicize event to student body.
*Host event while also publicizing Elon’s University Innovation Fellows to student body.
*Send thank you cards to speakers to hopefully gain a connection with them and gain support.
*Try and get 100+ student and faculty to come to one of the events.

With the establishment of the Maker Hub in Fall 2015, Elon took the first step towards establishing a dedicated I&E makerspace. However, students still need a space that is effectively staffed, well and reliably equipped, and where they feel comfortable to brainstorm and prototype their ideas.

Strategies:

*Identify what aspects of the Maker Hub are most in need of improvement. 
*Work on training every student staff member on the full arsenal of tools and equipment availble in order to streamline students' making process.
*Improve equipment uptime; especially the 3D printers. 
*Advertise the Maker Hub by integrating the space with traditional class curriculums.
*Connect the space with other incubators in the area.

= Priority #6: Elon Innovators Network' =

Purpose:

One way to encourage others to take their ideas and dreams to the next level is to show them that it has and is being done! This project would seek to shine a light on Elon’s current and past entrepreneurs.

Strategies:

*Contact individual currently in charge of Doherty Center Electronic message board TV.
*Research students involved with I&E on campus.
*Email these students asking for a “profile”.
*Feature students on the board and expand to online.
*Establish an Elon Innovators page on various social media platforms.
*Feature students and alumni working on innovative and entrepreneurial projects.

We do not have sufficient resources to pursue this specific category but have plans to apply the four other categories to our campus. We hope to have the opportunity and resources to incorporate this category down the road.

Elon is located in the Triad and is very close to the Research Triangle. Our Student Professional Development Center works to connect students with businesses in both of these areas. We also have large job and internship fairs that bring in startups and large companies like Deloitte and Oracle. These programs are very common among most schools and we are currently working to expand them. Because of the many other schools in the area with strong research focuses it is difficult to attract larger research projects but there are some smaller companies that we have been able to work with. Our Environmental Department has been involved with doing some really neat testing for products that will be sold to Kobalt and there are many other projects taking place within our other departments. As a Leadership Circle this is an area I think we could improve in. To do this we will need to reach out to many of the local companies to see what types of projects and research they might need validated. Because we are such a small school compared to schools like NC State there are some smaller projects that we could work on that would be very helpful to those businesses. The first step for us will be getting involved with the Chamber of Commerce.

Elon has made a lot of progress in this area and our plans are to continue to make huge leaps and bounds here. The town of Elon and the surrounding area were hit hard when the textile companies left. Over the next 20 years our university has major priorities to help build up the areas around Elon and create an environment that will bring in more business and attract students and faculty. We have also invested in offices in downtown Burlington and Greensboro that are specifically geared toward community engagement, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These efforts are only possible with the support of the entire university so we plan to help out in whatever way we can. Initially it will be important to do surveys and studies on other universities that have accomplished similar goals. One example that we have looked at is Duke University, which has helped transform Durham over the years.
