David Shull is a fourth year student at Michigan Technological University pursuing degrees in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. David is an entrepreneur at heart and values innovation, initiative, and ambition. David loves coming up with new ways to do things, and helping organizations develop.  David is passionate about mobile development and is thrilled to be a part of a growing industry. As a sophomore David founded the Mobile Developers Club at Michigan Technological University to try and provide a venue for students to learn how to write apps for mobile devices. Since then David has been involved in writing a variety of applications from animated E-books, to apps targeting the food industry. = <big>Entreprenuership</big>  =

David's intrest in entreprenuership started in high school when he co-founded a web-design startup. This early experience with starting a business was an invaluable learning experience. 

In 2013 David co-founded a startup called [http://divinarehealth.com Divnare Health] with a group of students at Michigan Technological University. Divinare focuses on driving healthy behavorial changes using data collected from a user's smartphone, wearable devices, and social media networks.

= <big></big>Leadership =
<div>David is passionate about growing as a leader. In 2010 David was accepted into the [http://pavlisinstitute.mtu.edu Pavlis Institute for Global Technological Leadership.] The Pavlis Institute is a 25 credit leadership institute that focuses on empowering students with the neccesary tools to be succesful in a globalized socieity. The program culminates into a 5 week international experience where students travel to India, Ghana, or Malta unsupervised by Michigan Tech faculty / staff to implement and lead projects. </div><div> </div><div>David has also served as the president for the Michigan Tech Student Union Board, as the PR Chair for Michigan Tech's student government, and in various other positions throughout the university.  </div>
= <big>Entreprenuership at Michigan Technological University</big> =

David could not be more excited to be partnering with the other University Innovation Fellows to catalyze postive change at Michigan Tech. Through the UIF program David is working on the following iniatives: 

#StartupTech: StartupTech is a business incubator David is propsing that would help bridge the gap between technical talent and students with ideas. The StartupTech draft is in its third revision and a budget is being drawn up to be presented to the University. 
#HackerBlock: The hacker block builds on an idea from the [http://azstarnet.com/business/local/tucson-techie-entrepreneurs-drop-anchor-at-pirate-mansion/article_f509c7ac-351e-5da8-8ee1-7693dc0fcd9a.html#.UwKW6cUV7cs.gmail University of Arizona]. The idea is in its infancies but the concept is to have a block in Houghton Michigan devoted to entreprenuers.

These students are from over 221 universities across more than 55 countries. The Fellowship is comprised of people from different sectors, geographies and cultural backgrounds. The experiences of each Fellow contribute to the diverse modes of thinking brought forward in the StartingBloc Fellowship community.

StartingBloc's vision is a global ecosystem in which the world's greatest challenges are resolved by the ''collaborative work of a community of leaders'' from all sectors, in order to drive innovative ideas into actions to create lasting, positive social impact.

= Distinct Differences From Other Offerings =

StartingBloc aids students in becoming innovative problem solvers. Fellows learn to create sustainable solutions by identifying problems, learning quickly to guage context, create market-based, sustainable solutions and implement these solutions. Fellows learn to build relationships using communication, empathy and authenticity. StartingBloc thrives on the principle that collaboration is fundamental to solving the world's greatest problems. Fellows should also have all the skills and resources to complete their goals. Businesses and relationships are built through social responsibility.

BuildingBloc Workships offer a deeper look into specific topics or skills related to social innovation. These workships are help in New York. Los Angeles, Boston and will soon be expanding to other regions. StartingBloc partners with corporations, individuals and organizations to implement these programs for our community.

This summit reconnects Fellows across Institute classes, allows Fellows to find inspiration for future careers and provides opportunities for Fellows to get the resources to act upon future plans.

== Graduate School ==

There are many Fellows in graduate school. StartingBloc can connect Fellows with other Fellows on campus. If a Fellow is applying for graduate school, another Fellow can be contacted and asked 3 questions, and a call can be dropped to them. 

= Impact Achieved For Students and Campus =

Alums of StartingBloc have achieved social, environmental and economic change across the country.

Mattias Sparrow, a fellow from 2004, now manages strategy and development for Gary Klinsky Children's Centers. These centers are after-school-program providers supporting 800 young students at five schools in Brooklyn, New York. 

Pyiya Khetarpal helped KLD Reaserch and Analytics in Boston launch an index of 100 companies investing in technology that address climate change.

Moses Choi, an assistant portfolio manager for Citigroup in New York, has been working to set up an internal corporate-social-responsibility club.

StartingBloc has relationships with graduate schools at MIT, Duke and Tufts, which reserve spots in their programs for fellows, and with companies and nonprofits that provide internships.

Given the costs of attending Starting Bloc, the organization has setup a fundraising toolkit for aspiring participants. From the Starting Bloc website: “StartingBloc has partnered with CrowdRise to make it easier to fundraise your Institute costs”.

CrowdRise lets users create campaigns under the StartingBloc umbrella. These campaigns can be shared online with friends, family, and supporters.
