<div style="clear:both;">[[File:1540733115744.jpg|thumb|587x587px]]Daniel Yim is an international business major at Susquehanna University where he has received a great liberal arts education allowing him to gain insight into a variety of disciplines. He is also a University Innovation Fellows candidate for the Fall 2017 leadership circle on his campus and the first UIF member from his 2020 class. He has helped create the first creator and innovator showcase and helped push for the mentoring and innovation center on his campus.

A global leader with a passion for cross-cultural interactions and perspectives, Daniel has an adaptive mindset that has allowed him to gain global opportunities. He has been recognized by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S State Department by being award the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship that has allowed him to study abroad in Tokyo, Japan for the fall 2018 semester. He has also been recognized by his school and was 1 of 7 students who received the Eric Stein Scholarship, allowing him to intern in Seoul, South Korea during the summer of 2019.

Back on campus, Daniel has been involved in a range of diverse clubs and communities at SU such as the Asian Cultural Association, D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship) Club, League of Legends Club, Marketing Club, P.I.E.R (Professional Internship and Employment Readiness Program). Daniel is also a large advocate and mentor for students wanting to study abroad, providing students with resources to help them succeed and scholarship resources such as the Gilman Scholarship.

Growing up in Warrington, PA, Daniel participated in Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout, involved in music, marching band, and spending the rest of his time working or reading. Some of his hobbies include cooking, designing, reading, PC building, and photography. Driven by his passion for helping support others, learning new things, and his global mindset, Daniel is interested in the success of himself and his coworkers, friends, and students.

<big>Susquehanna University is a private liberal arts institution. It was founded in 1858 in the small town of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. The university is dedicated to helping students become productive, creative leaders in a diverse world though academics, service, and personal values which is shown through the university motto of “achieve, lead, serve,” as well as the school’s teaching and community environment. Susquehanna is centrally located within a 3 hour drive of 4 major cities - Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, DC, and is 4 hours from Pittsburgh and just 1.5 hours from the scenic Pocono Mountains.</big>

<big>Susquehanna University believes that studying away and other cross-cultural experiences are essential to a liberal arts education - so much so that the University has made it a part of the central curriculum. Susquehanna University's distinctive award-winning cross-cultural program is called GO (Global Opportunities). = <big>Innovation and Entrepreneurship</big> =
<big>Susquehanna University has entrepreneurship and innovation opportunities for students and experienced and helpful professors. Students are able to learn from professors through their class lessons and succeed outside the classroom with their own ventures and research. The Sigmund Weis School of business has an entrepreneurship and innovation minor. Additionally, Susquehanna has recently started a partnership with Columbia University for a combined degree program in liberal arts and Science education and Engineering. Interested students will be able to obtain two bachelors degrees in just five years.</big>

<big>Susquehanna is growing in opportunities for students to engage in entrepreneurship and innovation. The university has recently established an Entrepreneurship & Innovation minor to replace the business administration entrepreneurship emphasis, and faculty currently teaching entrepreneurship classes are striving to enroll students from all different disciplines. Students hoping to create their own organizations or campus publications will quickly learn about the faculty and staff’s willingness to give advice and guidance to help turn their ideas into realities. The university ran a Pitch Contest in the spring of 2014 and saw students from various backgrounds and departments bring forth ideas for innovation and creativity. The Pitch Contest has not been held since, but we hope to collaborate with the business school, alumni relations and the career development center to reinstate the Pitch Contest by spring of 2018.</big>

<big>Pitch Contest: The Pitch Contest was organized to “help students gain experience in developing and presenting ideas for innovation.”  Alumni served as the judges of the event and were able to share their own experiences while building connections between current students and alumni for a greater network. The event helped to inspire ideas, as well as provide space for feedback on how students may improve their ideas and/or pitches for the future. Students were given two minutes to describe their ideas and convince the judges of their merit, learning how to best communicate in order to sell their products/ideas. </big>

<big>Faculty and Staff</big>

<big>Faculty at Susquehanna University have recently engaged in innovative and entrepreneurial opportunities with many companies and organizations such as the Keystone Innovation Zone and the American Physiological Society. These opportunities open the gateway for faculty members to receive funding for projects and research and provide interested students with opportunities, building their confidence and strengthening their innovative and entrepreneurial skill sets.</big>

<big>Recently, Keystone Innovation Zone provided funding to a professor in the Sigmund Weis Business School to assist in developing a website for the local Selinsgrove company, Fresh Roasted Coffee. The funding provided allowed the faculty member to involve two Susquehanna University students. Keystone Innovation Zone has also provided faculty and students the privilege of assisting another local company in developing a device to scale trees in order to assist the hunters in the area. Currently, faculty in the Biology department at Susquehanna University are working to gain funding from the American Physiological Society and the National Science Foundation to conduct innovative research. The funding not only assists the faculty members in their research, but grants students the opportunity to take part in the research as well.</big>

<big>Additionally, the Center for Teaching and Learning provides grants for faculty that foster curricular or pedagogical innovations in order to enhance learning. It also hosts lunches and workshops where faculty members can learn about teaching strategies and share innovative ideas, facilitates a "talk-while-you-walk" initiative for faculty to walk while they talk about teaching, and partners faculty members with two or three peers to discuss teaching strategies more intimately.</big>

<big>The science department at Susquehanna keeps students highly involved in the forefront of the research process from the beginning of their undergraduate studies. Students are regularly invited to partner with faculty for the summer to conduct research in the various areas of the professors’ areas of expertise.</big>

= <big>University Industry Collaboration</big> =
<big>Susquehanna University is centrally located in a small, but bustling economic center within central Pennsylvania. Academically, the Sigmund Weis School of Business leads the campus in industry collaboration. A variety of business classes push their students beyond the classroom to collaborate with local small businesses and entrepreneurs. Extracurricular organizations such as Enactus and, in the past, the Entrepreneurship Club have also acted as bridges connecting SU students with industries both local and abroad. Geisinger Hospital is also an industry collaborator. Students have the opportunity to complete internships with Geisinger and the campus also hosts a Geisinger Health Center.</big><big>This factor coupled with the college’s strong alumni network present students with opportunities to interact and work with professionals regularly throughout their academic career. Formal events, such as “Breakthrough: To Life After Graduation” allow students to discuss topics such as entrepreneurship and research with experienced professional alumni. <big>SEDA-Council of Governments is a regional public organization that serves 11 counties in Central Pennsylvania. The organization is overseen by a Board which consists of elected officials and local people. SEDA-Council of Governments focuses on transportation, international sales, information technology and financial packaging. This organization works on marketing local products for international export.</big><big> </big><big>Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) leads a major effort to aid in the development of small businesses. They offer information and resources to start businesses and help with growth, continuity and survival once the business has been started. SBDC has many branches including one at nearby Bucknell University. SBDC offers a variety of services aimed to topics such as Government Marketing, International Business, Technology assistance and Environmental Management.</big>

Susquehanna University is a small liberal arts University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Susquehanna's motto is to achieve, lead and serve. Susquehanna also allows students to take a step forward, and enter new conversations through our various clubs and organizations, as well as through our Global Opportunities program, which connects students with the world and its various cultures through a study abroad requirement. While there are some opportunities for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E), such as participating in the recently implemented Entrepreneurship & Innovation minor, the university still has lots of room for improvement. 

One of the biggest challenges that Susquehanna faces is the lack of collaboration between the business school and the school of arts and sciences. Students usually feel limited by their departments and associate the words "entrepreneurship" and "innovation" strictly with business. The main objective of our University Innovation Fellows Leadership Circle is to implement more I&E programs on campus and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Susquehanna University is a small liberal arts University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Susquehanna's motto is to achieve, lead and serve. Susquehanna also allows students to take a step forward, and enter new conversations through our various clubs and organizations, as well as through our Global Opportunities program, which connects students with the world and its various cultures through a study abroad requirement. While there are some opportunities for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E), such as participating in the recently implemented Entrepreneurship & Innovation minor, the university still has lots of room for improvement. 

One of the biggest challenges that Susquehanna faces is the lack of collaboration between the business school and the school of arts and sciences. Students usually feel limited by their departments and associate the words "entrepreneurship" and "innovation" strictly with business. The main objective of our University Innovation Fellows Leadership Circle is to implement more I&E programs on campus and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

Daniel Yim is a University Innovation Fellow candidate from Susquehanna University (SU) in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. He is a sophomore majoring in [[File:Daniel Yim.jpg|thumb]]business administration with no current emphasis. Although Daniel hasn't found an emphasis within the business field, he is always pursuing opportunities and new experiences to find his niche. Daniel is originally from Warrington, Pennsylvania and hopes to work overseas one day.

Daniel is involved in a range of diverse clubs and communities at SU such as Asian Cultural Association, D.I.C.E (Design, Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship) Club, League Club, Marketing Club, P.I.E.R (Professional Internship and Employment Readiness Program). In his spare time, he enjoys learning about new ideas and skills, reading and playing competitive games.

Growing up in Warrington, Daniel was very interested in learning and trying out new things. Daniel has been in scouting since he was in third grade and eventually earned the rank of Eagle Scout during his time in scouting, learning a variety of different skills in the outdoors, leadership skills, and has earned over fifty merit badges during his scouting career. He has applied his love for learning in the real world by teaching himself how to cook a variety of different foods in the kitchen, building his own computer and many other more. This passion has led Daniel to continue to take opportunities and hopes University Innovation Fellows will help him further his learning in order to make an impact on the community.
