==Bio==
Hello, my name is Elizabeth Powell, I am a sophomore, and I am from South Florida as of right now, I live in Coconut Creek. I am a huge fan of computer technology and am pursuing a BS in MIS (Management Information Systems). I decided to go to Oakwood University because it was an SDA, and HBCU and I wanted to meet people like me. On the plus side, it is far from home. After I graduated from Oakwood University in May of 2025, my career plan is to go back to school for my master's degree as of right now I do not know where yet, then work in my field and one day start my own technology company. I have recently taken on an interest in real estate and hope to get my license in that area. My greatest qualities are helping people, loyalty, honesty, and being very assertive.
For just over 125 years, this illustrious institution has molded the lives of young and old, educationally, physically, and spiritually.
===Promoting Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship===
On a large scale, facilities to promote the increase of innovation and entrepreneurship on campus are lacking. In recent years, however, Oakwood University has developed into an innovation friendly space. Thanks to Julian Waddell, Entrepreneurship as a minor with select entrepreneurship classes have been incorporated into the School of Business and Information. Moreover, across campus, administration has implored to think outside the box and create new ideas for the running of the school. Unfortunately, not much innovation is actually seen in practice, and is still on the very steady increase.

As it relates to entrepreneurship, several students across campus start their own businesses to help facilitate the their tuition payments, and to get a head start for their future careers. The Oakwood University Launchpad (IG: @[https://www.instagram.com/oulaunchpad/?hl=en oulauchpad]) is available to facilitate students' pathway to entrepreneurship, offering support, advice, and guidance. This facility was opened ([https://www.rocketcitynow.com/article/news/local/oakwood-university-opens-ou-launchpad-entrepreneurship-center-unity-authorized-training-partner/525-4725d4e3-a386-4913-9a2b-93c657e74b6c opening]) in 2021 and allows for students to explore the world of entrepreneurship with faculty who are trained to support and encourage. Though this practice of entrepreneurship is not heavily widespread among, it is indeed present, and facilities are available for students to access. ([https://innovationsoftheworld.com/oakwood-university-if-you-build-it-they-will-come-this-misquoted-line-derived-from-the-movie-field-of-dreams-is-often-associated-with-startup-development-it-sounds-good-but-unfortunate/ Oulauchpadwebsite])
<br />

===Encouraging Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship===
Generally speaking, faculty is encouraged to pursue the highest level of academic as a large percentage of the faculty are either at the Master level or PhD level. Typically, faculty members strive to apply the theories and concepts taught in their programs to make improvements to faculty relations, curriculum development, and graduate level training. In these instances, faculty is encouraged to pursue innovation and expand the present way of operation.

Despite this, there is a noticeable lack of innovation within the classroom setting. Unless in lab classes, students usually must endure lecture-style tutelage, and are called upon to regurgitate the information periodically in quizzes and examinations.
<br />
===Actively supporting the university technology transfer function===
In addition to the OU Launchpad or Entrepreneurship Center, an E-Sports Lab was also created to facilitate the practice of entrepreneurship among interested students on campus. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhH8hxa8MF0 Here], a vlog shows the launch of the E-Sports Lab, and insights into the purpose and use of the space. Gaming computer systems were installed to encourage students to employ entrepreneurship and innovation for themselves in the virtual world. Though recent, the active support of these facilities is still yet to be seen. While students do access these facilities, more promotion must be done to ensure that students take full advantage of the resources that are available to them.

===Facilitating university-industry collaboration===
Next Gen HQ, a mentorship program, recently met with students at Oakwood University to offer advice and support to those students interested in creating their own entrepreneurial ventures. Mentors are established entrepreneurs who have made themselves available for students to ask questions and provide feedback about their business, where they may find funding and other resources to facilitate the smooth running of their business.

===Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts===
Several organizations like the Oakwood University chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (OU NAACP), and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) generally provide scholarships to students of various disciplines, so that they have access to the education that would equip them to increase their entrepreneurial potential.
For a period of eight (8) weeks, they will be challenged to multiply this $20 using an original business idea. Throughout the process, they will have access to mentorship from entrepreneurial experts who will help them to see success in their business. After eight (8) weeks have passed, the participants in the challenge will return the $20 and present their business plan and progress (in Shark Tank style) to a panel of entrepreneurs, who will select a winner. Entrepreneurial ventures and presentations will be judged on innovative genius, originality, projected possibility to dominate a niche market, as well as a clear statistical analysis. A $20 Challenge should be hosted where participants will be given $20 to transform into a business venture. ===Promoting Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship===

===Encouraging Faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship===

Guided by the motto, "God First!", Oakwood University faculty, staff and administration impart knowledge and information, to empower students who "Enter to Learn," to "Depart to Serve".
===Promoting Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship===

Though this practice is not discouraged by faculty or administration, it is not forcefully encouraged as it relates to business support and guidance.

===Encouraging faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship===

===Actively supporting the university technology transfer function===

===Facilitating university-industry collaboration===

===Engaging with regional and local economic development efforts===
I have wanted to start a podcast for a while now, I've actually recorded some episodes. But I'm grateful that I read this resource. I now know which equipment I still need to buy, as well as the platforms I could choose from to distribute and promote my podcast. I definitely will be coming back to this resource from time to time over the next few months to make sure that I get everything that I need before I start.
