As a university innovation fellows candidate for 2022, I developed a project that aims to increase innovation throughout my campus, Middle East Technical University. My colleagues and I sought to bring school communities together to think innovatively and design solutions to those problems. This project led me to become a UIF Candidate. Moreover, in addition to my experience on this subject, reading this article made me see some flaws in my project development process. I think this article is an excellent road map for developing an innovation space, which is essential for improved higher education.

I really liked how this resource illustrated the concrete abstract steps one would nee to develop an innovation space to support creativity and design research. In our UIF project, the 2020 cohort is trying to to a research reboot on campus; to increase opportunities and awareness about research. When thinking about the steps, I think this resource does a great job in what you should do. We have not really thought about the materials which go into such a center on campus. In addition, to supplies in funding, what may go into a research center?

Barış is a junior Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering student and a University Innovation Fellow Candidate. He was born in Ankara, which is the capital city of Turkey. He is continuing his education in Ankara at Middle East Technical University.

As a kid growing up watching the news about gender and social inequality and the non-inclusive education system of the country he is living in, he started taking role in social responsibility projects. Those projects helped him to become the person he is today, a dreamer. He began to research environmental and social problems. He has been working on biofuel production from food waste to contribute to the global energy transformation. Apart from this, he is developing a social responsibility platform that aims to enable disadvantaged high school and university students to shape their careers in the light of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals with peer solidarity. With his educational background in the energy industry and the social responsibility projects he has contributed to, he wants to be a change maker for an equal world.
