Amanda Arango is a University Innovation Fellow attending the University of New Haven, in the Fast Track program, majoring in Marketing with minor in Behavoiral Economics. Since coming to the University of New Haven she has gained various opportunities to thrive on campus. She has particpated in 2 StartUp weekends where she recieved training in Design Thinking and Crossfunction team leadership.

Amanda has become quite involved on campus and has been able to gain leadership roles in various clubs and organizations such as becoming the business liaison for the college of business, a House Representative for Undergraduate Student Government, a Residential Assistant, a member of the Student Advisroy Board, Photo editor for the school newspaper, and is Sunshine Chair for Phi Sigma Sigma. Currently she works on campus in the  Student Success Center providing assistance to students so that they can be most successful during their time at University of New Haven. Through attending this University she has also formed great relationships with other students and faculty that have given her the chance to network on a greater scale and has recieved so many opportunities to really succeed and thrive at this school. 

A little about me is I am an avid reader, I can sit and read for days on end and be happy. I love nature and doing really anything outdoors. I love taking adventures and traveling and hope to visit the 7 wonders of the world one day. I love to bake, sing, craft, and play sports, especially Ultimate Frisbee! Most of all though I am very passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship and hope to own my own coffee shop one day, as well as various non for profits because I feel with any riches we recieve in this life, tangible or intangible, it is important to give back to those who need it most because society should be a better place for all of us to live. Not only this but if we are not using our minds and creations to better the world we will never feel fullfillment.

== Overview: ==

Founded in 1920 on the campus of Yale University in cooperation with Northeastern University, UNH moved to its current West Haven campus in 1960 and opened its Orange Campus in January, 2014. The University operates a satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy, and offers programs at several locations throughout Connecticut and one in California. UNH provides its students with a unique combination of a solid liberal arts education and real-world, hands-on career and research opportunities.

The University enrolls approximately 7,000 students, including nearly 1,600 graduate students and more than 5,400 undergraduates – the majority of whom reside in University housing. Through its College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business, Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences,Tagliatela College of Engineering, andLyme Academy College of Fine Arts, UNH offers over 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. UNH students have access to more than 400 study abroad programs worldwide and its student athletes compete in 16 varsity sports in the NCAA Division II’s highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.

In 2016-17, the University of New Haven awarded 1,186 undergraduate and 919 graduate degrees. It currently has over 57,000 alumni, hosts 21,000 visitors a year, and employs 845 people.

== Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship ==

A department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship has recently been formed on campus and is developing relevant courses for all majors plus a minor in Entrepreneurship. The Tagliatela College of Engineering has been introducing innovative entrepreneurial thinking into its courses. The college receives grants from the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN). This organization’s mission is to help instill engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work. Many of the engineering faculty and courses strive to help students realize the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship. Some courses help students learn to apply their knowledge to hands-on projects.

UNH’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program is designed to engage students in the experience of applied research under the direct mentorship of a faculty member. Over the course of a summer, students whose research proposals are accepted conduct a research project and present their results in written and oral-presentation form. The program supports student engagement, experiential learning, persistence and mentoring. Many students go on to present their findings at professional conferences and pursue more research.

=== Senior Design ===

Senior Design is a capstone design course for senior students in mechanical, industrial and systems, civil, computer, and electrical engineering. Students are required to complete a two-semester course sequence involving application of their theoretical knowledge to solve pressing real-world problems. Each project includes the development and use of design methodology, formulation of design problem statements and specifications, consideration of alternative solutions, feasibility considerations and detailed system descriptions. Projects include realistic constraints, such as economic factors, safety, reliability, maintenance, aesthetics, ethics, political and social impact. Students are expected to present orally their results in a series of design reviews. The students document their solutions using a written report that includes an executive summary. A working prototype or simulation of their solution, as appropriate, is required to complete the course.

Design projects enable our students to put into practice what they have learned and prepare them for the workforce. Business and industry sponsor these projects. Students team up as a business consulting unit to solve the client’s technical/business challenge over a 28-week period.

== Technology Transfer ==

The University of New Haven technology transfer team is responsible for the identification, protection, marketing and licensing of intellectual assets developed by faculty, staff and, in some cases, students.

The ultimate goal of the technology transfer program is to:

<li>help realize the social and commercial value of UNH discoveries,</li>
<li>accelerate the pace in which discoveries reach commercial reality,</li>
<li>bring proper recognition to the university and its many innovators.</li>

Student assignments include computer programming, accounting, counseling, criminal investigation, and engineering.
